It's just about to come on here.

I had a friend back east who was a lay midwife. I always thought she and her clients were taking big chances until I saw what passes for normal birth during nursing school.

She got my full support after that.

It's also fun to see how the process has changed over the years. Once they realized that enemas could stop labor, they finally stopped giving them. All participants could tolerate a little shit better than they could tolerate the consequences of aborted labor.

At the time (early 90's) there was only one practice with midwives within driving distance. I believe there were legal restrictions to midwives practicing in NC back then.

So we drove an hour each way to appointments because I insisted on having a midwife.

The trip to the hospital (also an hour away) was NOT fun when I was in labor though...lol.

Oh, and I had a midwife for most of my labor with my child, until I required a c-section.

Chummy has placental abruption.. I had that with my first and third son.. I cannot imagine how scary that must have been back then.. It was a fright for me in 73 & 78..

I really want to see that episode.

In my case, I just had problems with failure to progress after a couple of days, which caused my blood pressure to skyrocket. I do sometimes wonder if I had been allowed to labor outside of a sterile, uninviting hospital room if my labor would have progressed.
