Omaha Police Officer Leighanne Loges set a high standard for her fellow rookies by reviving a woman who had collapsed Thursday while frantically searching for her missing daughter.

Loges was on just her second day of patrol when she heard a radio call about 9 a.m. for a missing 5-year-old girl at an apartment complex just east of 102nd and Maple Streets.

Loges, who was already in the area, arrived first and found two women and several children huddled around the girl’s mother. The woman had collapsed on the sidewalk and was not breathing.

“I thought it was a possible seizure, so I called for a medic right away,” Loges said. “There was no pulse, so I began chest compressions, and after about 10 compressions she ended up taking a big breath in.”

It has been a difficult time for the OPD since the March 21 incident below. 2 officers fired. Several suspended. I work for the Dept. This gave all of the Dept. a much needed reason to hold our heads up high again.
