It will be tomorrow before we start getting the accurate count of the dead and missing.

We can hope for the best, but the devastation doesn't look good for there not to be any deaths from this.

The 4th, 5th and 6th grades were evacuated to a church. K through 3rd grade stayed at school in hallways and bathrooms.

to have underground shelters for all their charges? Sheltering in a hallway is best if there's no other place to be,* but a sealed shelter with food, water, and communications would seem a requirement, would it not?

In the early '70s, I was stationed in Texas. We were called upon to go to the aid of a small town just across the border. The image that's seared in my mind is a U-shaped retirement home (similar to the dorm I was living in at the time) where the residents had huddled in the base of the U for protection against the storm. Both wings of the building were demolished and the top two floors of the base of the U ripped away, but all those huddled in the first floor walked away.

It doesn't mean there are no casualties.

I'd wait for the full report before becoming celebratory.

Seven bodies pulled from an elementary school, 20 to 30 more unaccounted for.

This is not going to be good.
