The story itself is idiotic. The reactions to it are disturbing to say the least.
There was a young girl who decided to take a short cut home from school. The fastest way to her house was to cut through an alley. The girl approached the alley way. She saw a man standing like he was waiting for someone. She said a prayer: Dear Lord please lead me through this alleyway, safe and unharmed. Amen." The girl walked through the alley and past the man. Later on that night the girl decided to watch the news. She saw that man had murdered and raped a young girl. The police said the man told them another girl had passed through the alley 10 minutes before. They asked him why he didn't attack the first girl. He said there was a man walking beside her...

(62,342 posts)while the story that Barack Obama was born on American soil of an American mother is pretty suspect.

(21,421 posts)looks like variations of this BS story have been going around since 2000. things worded in such a fashion as a "fable" rather than a news article should send the reader straight to snopes.

Edited to add: So the believers think that God or Jesus walked beside HER because she prayed.
Too disgusting for words because it implies that others who were victims didn't deserve such protection, or whatever. I hate trying to wrap my brain around their logic.

(3,220 posts)In the original, it was bandits who were going to attack a camp, but instead saw a large armed group in the camp. The people in the camp prayed for safety, and the guards were angels that were gone by the time the people in the camp woke up.
This is an updated, truly hateful version.

(38,613 posts)Indeed, the Facebook post in question is nothing if not hate towards those who don't believe.
Why can't they just believe what they want, and move on?
TheMadMonk
(6,187 posts)AND because far far too many of them believe it is their duty to ram said god down the throats of non-believers.
And then there are the myriad stories (plenty in the Bible) just like this one, in which God "saves" one prayerful individual whilst condemning those who fail to kiss sufficient divine arse to some of the most disgusting fates imaginable.
On the other side of the coin are the millions of identical "conversations with God" to which the answer is "die in a ditch".
