Border Patrol agents seize nearly 9 tons of marijuana in 2 days
EDINBURG—U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector confiscated an estimated $14.3 million worth of marijuana in multiple seizures over Aug. 15-16.
Agents assigned to the Falfurrias Checkpoint made the largest seizure on Aug. 15. During an immigration inspection of the driver of a tractor-trailer, a Border Patrol K-9 detected the presence. Agents found more than 10,300 pounds of marijuana hidden inside the trailer. Another large seizure occurred on Aug. 16 when agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station spotted a truck traveling away from the Rio Grande. When the driver of the pickup spotted Border Patrol agents and a helicopter from the Office of Air and Marine, he made an abrupt U-turn and sped back to the river. At the river’s edge the driver and a passenger abandoned the truck and crossed the river to Mexico. Inside the vehicle agents found more than 1,500 pounds of marijuana. snip So far for fiscal year 2013, agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector have seized more than 700,000 pounds of marijuana. http://www.progresstimes.net/news/general-interest/4893-border-patrol-agents-seize-nearly-9-tons-of-marijuana-in-2-days.html

2. That will hurt the stock price for Frito Lay.
Less demand for Cheetos and Doritos. Other than that, this will have no effect other than to maybe inflate the price for pot.

3. What that means is 90 tons got through.
Since even the Feds admit they only catch about 10%.

4. Read the rest of the OP, means over 3500 tons got through
The OP mentions 700,000 pounds in the Rid Grande for the year. If the 10% figure is accurate, that is 3500 tons.

7. Those would be big single day numbers, average is about 15 to 20 tons a day.
This war on drugs is such a waste it isn't even funny, just depressing. Imagine those resources put into any other productive venture.

8. There was a lot of activity in AZ during the same time.
I am guessing that the Cartels were working a "flood the zone" strategy. |

9. Who smokes all that Mexican brick weed? I haven't seen any in years.
But then, I'm in California, where my own little patch is now flowering.
When I make my annual fall trip to South Dakota, that's where I find Mexican brick weed. But lately, Colorado weed is increasingly showing up up there. |

10. This is the perfect way to keep the "Marijuana is BAD" meme alive...
The government allows just enough to get through so there is a supply to sell illegally. That keeps the turf war over marijuana alive and thriving. Then the government can say "See? Marijuana sales cause violence, therefore marijuana BAD."
Legalize private cultivation of marijuana for private use, and legalize sales through stores that sell nothing but marijuana as California's "pharmacies" do. Tax it. As for driving under the influence of marijuana, I understand there are saliva tests that can detect the presence of delta-9-THC for between 4-6 hours in a marijuana users saliva. If a LEO suspects a driver is under the influence of marijuana during a stop, administer the test and if d-9-THC is present in the saliva, ticket the driver for driving under the influence of marijuana. As for legalizing all illicit drugs, I've known tweakers (meth addicts) and seen plenty of people in the grip of tweaker psychosis, and witnessed personally what it does to lives and families. I can't go there. Marijuana? Fucking legalize it already. Here's a bonus: Gun crimes will go WAAAAAY down. Gang violence will go WAAAAY down. |
