Hunger in America’s Cities
In 2012, 16 metro areas in the U.S. reported that at least one in five people were struggling with finding enough food to eat. And while many people might assume that hunger in America was most prevalent in the Midwestern and Northeastern urban areas that have been battered by poverty in recent decades, the South and California actually lead the pack. Click through to see the 10 hungriest cities in America.

7. Las Vegas, Nevada — 22.2% struggle with food hardship
The glitz and glamour and high rollers of Vegas might get all the attention, but there’s a much less ritzy side to this desert playground that’s marked by poverty and hunger: 22.2 percent of people in the Las Vegas area are impacted by food insecurity every day.

4. Dayton, Ohio — 22.5% struggle with food hardship
Known as the birthplace of aviation, Dayton is also the sixth largest city in Ohio. A staggering 22.5 percent of the people in the Dayton area aren’t always sure where their next meal is going to come from.

2. New Orleans, Louisiana — 23% struggle with food insecurity
The Big Easy has big problems when it comes to hunger. Even as the city has bounced back from Hurricane Katrina and is more popular than ever with tourists, nearly one in four locals (23 percent) are grappling with food insecurity.

It's shameful if One person is going hungry in this Land O plenty
