Men Replace Woman In Sizzling Ducati Motorcycle Posters

This certainly does a good job of pointing out how ridiculous the poses are for women in these types of ads.

-------

http://www.demilked.com/hot-mess-motocorsa-ducati-panigale-1199/

This great series of promotional photos for the Ducati Panigale 1199 motorcycle created by the Motocorsa dealership in Portland, Oregon does a great job of flipping gender roles on their head. After shooting a seductive photo shoot with a female model, they also had a bunch of of men try to re-create the poses that the female model had struck. These photos may help men see how ridiculous the poses in these sort of calendar advertisements are – or they might help women see why those poses are so popular with men.

How many, let's say "average" people would look good in such bizarre and ridiculous poses? I know if I did it, I'd probably pull a muscle or two from laughter. The reason I said what I did is two-fold: one, I just watched an episode of "Ellen" with a "plus-sized model" (if I was "plus-sized" like her, I'd be pleased as punch), and she was talking about the absurd lengths women go to in order to look a certain way and how cruel others are to women who fall outside the parameters of "attractiveness," and two, I have seen male models for Decati motorcycles before. I was trying to find the pics, and I can't remember where I saved them. LOL! They, however, aren't usually contorted into positions usually reserved for pretzels and gymnasts.

ETA: Always proof-read!

ETA: Here's one, but it's not one of the ones I was thinking of...(sorry for the size)....

It's also worth mentioning that he's sitting in a way that suggests he could actually ride the motorcycle, rather than lying down on it.

Like another poster said, it isn't an actual motorcycle ad, but the idea was that here was a way one could sale a motorcycle, with an attractive person in the ad, in a way that didn't involve odd positions, or humanizing the motorcycle (why are they kissing it?!?).

I hate motorcycles. But he could teach me...

ETA: NOW, I checked out his footwear....kicking boots!

And I have to admit, I was checking out the guy's ass! So they did the trick. If you're selling jeans you want people to see how good they look on you. That pic is lit and framed to draw your eyes to the model/clothing.

So to be fair, this is not a good example.

The idea, however, was that his pose is not absurd or over the top and could easily be an ad for a motorcycle.

Nov 2013

When it is a prop there's less reason to think the pose on it should be more or less realistic. It's not the focus, the model is actually the focus of that pic.

But when selling a motorcycle, the model is an out of place "prop" so to speak. Empty eye candy that means nothing to the motorcycle. So it's pretty ridiculous to have her there at all, let alone in those odd poses.

In this case, while a prop (your term), this would be an example of an appropriate way to sell the bike. I never got the appeal of the splayed person on top of cars. It just always seemed odd to me. I don't want someone crawling on my car, I don't care how hot you are.

natural for their situations. . in this one that you posted it could be anyone in that pose because it fits with just how someone would dress or look sitting on the bike.

ETA I agree with your point: they took ordinary Joes off the street and posed them as a contrast to a highly glossed, highly made-up, airbrushed and probably photoshopped model. So of course it looked geeky by comparison. Ordinary women would have looked geeky too.

who are airbrushed and photoshopped and often have eating disorders or drug addictions themselves in order to stay thin. And why do so many women get breast implants? Because they are pummeled from the media and men's fantasies to believe they should. Plumped lips...

These ideas get into girls' heads when they are young enough to be influenced. If they have any low esteem at all they will fall prey to it.

He really appears to need a much larger shoe size though.

I got a kick out of how the one guy toward the end stepped it up a notch, the female model apparently kissing the bike, so the male licking it.

Demographic reasons aside, the men can't seem to strike the poses. Not to mention they block the view of the product. But seriously, if the ad is for a male audience then women will look sexy and men would look tough. For example.

Gender bending is fine, but most models look like they're on their last nerve.

Those sleek, aerodynamic motorcycles are gorgeous. They sell themselves.

The addition of models are ineffective for marketing them, in my opinion.
