War profiteer advertising on D.U. Yes, its true.

Boeing greeted me this morning with an image of "The Growler" and how I need to click to find out how to support this protector of my safety.

W.T.F, D.U. administrators?

1. Pretty sure they don't choose what ads appear

Google picks them
Based upon your browsing history.

3. The Ad bot uses an algorithm that based on the types of sites you visit and content & pairs you up

with adds in specific categories based on key words.

4. Ads are very personalized nowadays

It's possible that nobody else at DU even saw it.

I'm not sure you've noticed, but the same ads often follow you around the net, no matter what site you visit. I keep seeing developer-oriented ads for software services like hosting and SaaS companies, like mongolab.com and zendesk.com. I see the same ads on Facebook. You would see ads based on your own web history.

5. If you see an ad that is in appropriate

Drop a thread in ATA letting the admins know. They don't choose or monitor the ads - but they can block inappropriate ads if they are brought to their attention.

6. Most of my ads are for musical instruments...

Because I peruse a lot of musical instrument related sites...

7. Just got an offer to join the NRA, myself.

It's pretty funny. In a way, I'm glad the ad AI is so far off when picking "appropriate" advertisements. It tells me the mind-control people have a long way to go yet.

Wait... maybe that's what they want me to think!
