Egypt feminist defecates on IS flag in the nude (warning if hit link)

http://www.timesofisrael.com/egypt-feminist-defecates-on-is-flag-in-the-nude/

A well known Egyptian social activist and blogger posted a photo to Facebook Saturday of herself and another unidentified women defecating and menstruating on an Islamic State flag while in the nude, in what appears to be a protest against the Islamist terror group’s recent advances in northern Iraq and Syria.

Aliaa Magda Elmahdy did not specify why she posted the photo, though past controversies, such as a 2011 incident in which she posed in only stockings and red shoes for her blog — to protest against Egypt’s conservative culture — suggest that she was opposing the Islamic State terror group’s brutally restrictive and misogynistic ideology.

Picture is rather inappropriate to post.

The menstruation is even more offensive, actually, to strict adherents of particular forms of patriarchal Islam.

there are at least three reasons why you could think so, but I continue to be impressed by the courage shown by women of FEMEN like Inna Shevchenko and Aliaa Magda Elmahdy to use non-traditional methods of protest to highlight issues of inequality and bias towards women.

When it comes to protests like this one against ISIS from within the Middle East, its no stretch at all to say that it is done by Aliaa at grave risk to her life.

Isn't there a more effective and less unsavory way to make her voice heard?

What happened to good old-fashioned flag burning??

I'm just saying if I was a neutral or didn't know anything about the conflict, something like that isn't going to win me over to her side...

(I realize I'm also not the target demographic she is trying to reach...)

Most of us who not Islamic fundamentalist are generally on her side and agree with the general message she is trying to express. Her targets are well aware of what this is about, and that's really what matters.
