A History of Musicians Issuing Cease and Desists to (Mostly) GOP Politicians
snip...
As for the second question, this is only the latest instance of musicians getting pissed off when a GOP political candidate uses their music. More confusing, however, is these politicians' persistence in using music without asking. (They presumably do it because they think they won't be taken to court, but Jackson Browne successfully sued John McCain in 2008.)

(146,189 posts)4. I wonder if the limited use of music as bumper music
doesn't fall under the fair use coverage. I doubt that broadcasters pay royalties for bumper music, frankly. Typically, it's just short excerpt. I don't know the rules about that, though.

(16,130 posts)5. isn't there a limit
to the number of bars they are allowed to use under copyright law?
I've often wondered how laura ingram/dennis miller/savage and the others
got left leaning musicians to allow them to play a short spot during their shows.
I think they (the righties) push the limit.
