(3,182 posts)First and foremost, this is the right eating the right.
The whole situation with this woman is strange, but she's a right winger in bed with the looniest of the loons in this county. She doesn't live here. She has no connection to this county, nor the politicians in this county, but she has targeted it for her stunts for some reason.
The state republican party is ticked off at her because she took some film of the State Speaker of the House, edited it heavily to make him look bad, and posted it on YouTube during the primary.
She was filming a city of Cumming meeting. Since the city records every public meeting and puts them on their web site, there's no reason to have a private person filming them as well. So, the Mayor asked her to quit filming. She refused. He had her removed from the meeting. She sued. The right wing State AG took her case against the Mayor and has won a finding against the Mayor and a $1200.00 fine for "violating sunshine laws."
Long story short, during the recent primaries (all republican candidates, not a single DEM qualified for the ballot in this county) she took a video and sliced and diced it to make one of the local republican candidates look bad. She ticked off the local republican party. At the next republican women's event, she was unceremoniously kicked out. The local republican party just wrote a set of media rules and regs designed to keep this woman out of ANY republican event.
You have to understand the local politics around here. They vote 90% republican every election. Then, within weeks of being sworn in, every office holder becomes Public Enemy #1 until the next election.
This is nothing more than republican eating republican. Local politics writ large, with republicans the only party involved.
The Mayor of the city she sued? He's been in office for over 40 years. The entire city council runs unopposed every election. The county politicians HATE THEM. Because the city owns the outlet to the water source and rules it with an iron hand. The Mayor screws the County every which way, every time he can. Frankly, he's been a good Mayor for the residents of the City (my home is inside the city limits) has kept taxes and expenses low for city residents by forcing the COUNTY to fork over sales tax revenue and water payments. Road are paved and well maintained inside the city limits. We have sidewalks that end at the city line. We are the county seat and the only city within the county.
The bottom line is simple - this is republican vs. republican and it's LOCAL.
Nothing will come of this.
The woman is a no name weirdo with a video camera who plans to make a living like the Westboro family - by causing a scene like this one and suing whoever is involved. So far, she's sued the City, the Republican Women of Forsyth County and I'm quite certain will have a lawsuit against several entities over this one. There were multiple reporters at this same event, and they were also recording. No one but this woman was asked to turn off her camera.
We do NOT do ourselves any favors getting involved here. Let them tear each other apart and destroy the local republican party.
But DEMs should stay the hell away.

In the process Milum, in 2006, became the first blogger in America to lose a libel suit for posting on his blog that his former attorney delivered bribes from drug dealers to judges.
That suit cost Milum $50,000. The same year he lost another libel suit filed by a former county employee Milum accused of corruption. That cost him $150,000. But hes hardly missed a lick or a nasty bite since.

Last Saturday, Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal sat on the front row of a Republican 'meet and greet' and watched as Dawson County Deputy, Tony Wooten, forcibly removed video journalist Nydia Tisdale from the event held at Burts Pumpkin Farm.
Johnny and Kathy Burt, owners of Burts Pumpkin Farm in Dawsonville, hosted a meet and greet for Governor Deal and other Republican candidates. In attendance were: Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, Republican candidate for State School Superintendent Richard Woods, Department of Labor Commissioner Mark Butler, Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black, Attorney General Sam Olens, 9th District U.S. Congressman Doug Collins, Candidate for U.S. Senate David Perdue and Governor Nathan Deal.
Tisdale, the owner of AboutForsyth.com, has attended many of the candidate events. She video tapes them and uploads the videos to her website. Several of the candidates know her. She is a non-partisan video journalist.
Tisdale told FYN in an interview that, upon arriving. she introduced herself to Kathy Burt. She arrived early and sat on the front row with her video camera in plain view of everyone. No one approached her and no one asked what she was doing with a camera.

Just this woman, who has no affiliation with anything except multiple lawsuits and a website that garners absolutely no traffic.

(3,182 posts)and THAT was her goal.
The candidate? No contest there......he'll win re-election. Nydia Tisdale will have absolutely zero effect on any race in this state. She never intended to - she went looking to find someone to sue and she found them.

Been to Burt's many times and the folks that run the place are good people despite their politics. Nothing like this would have taken place if the 'journalist' had simply left the grounds when she was asked. And while she may have asked to attend and gotten initial approval from the owners of the property, when it was revealed who she was and the sleazy way she 'reports' I am sure a representative of the Burt family asked her to leave. Once she refused to leave it became trespassing and a matter for local police.
Sorry you can't even try to give people facts here... they're stuck on whatever 'bug of the day' they're on and there is no moving them from it. Nice job of trying, though.

Anyway, been to Burt's a time or two myself. It is, after all, the big school field trip around Halloween here - chaperoned my daughter's classes.
I have no doubt it was that jackass Ralph Hudgens who caused the whole freakout over Nydia when he realized he was being recorded saying Michelle Nunn makes him want to puke. The guy has the class of the toads that inhabit Burt's pond.
But, we're still wise, as Democrats, to swing very wide of this mess. Nydia Tisdale deserves no more support from us than Ralph Hudgens does.
Letting these animals tear each other to shreds is the best thing we could do for this state.

(3,870 posts)I looked over some of her videos that seemed to be concerned with a local board and a state senator's son, and listened to the interview with her at the end of the article to which I linked. Some of her answers in the interview did not seem to be very direct.
Does she have a political perspective that she espouses and supports with her work? From the video, she claims to be an objective recorder of events who seldom adds much commentary. Is that true or does she emulate James O'Keefe in her work? (Just curious.)
Glitterati
(3,182 posts)that's exactly why the state Republican party as banned her permanently.

David had to give up the website when he got sued for the 4th time for libel and lost. So he "sold" it to Nydia.

(3,182 posts)what I find amazing is watching them go all out during an election for some guy, then once elected, one vote and he's public enemy #1 if he dared to vote against the whack jobs.
They go from adoration to outright hatred on a dime! And, once they get to hatred, the conspiracies and nutty accusations flow like water.

(12,769 posts)Unless the film was edited in some way, she did nothing to deserve such treatment. We have to stand for the rights of everyone not just those that think the same as we do.

(3,182 posts)She was asked to stop filming and she refused.
She was asked to leave private property and she refused.

This woman has a history of going to public events, getting herself thrown out by behaving badly, and suing everyone in sight.
Live and Learn
(12,769 posts)Was it a public event? Did she have permission?
Even if she didn't, I see no reason for her treatment or an arrest. Was she actually arrested? On what charge?
I never heard her be asked to stop or leave so if she was it had to be edited out. And, the guy looked awful concerned about being recorded. I wonder why.
Do you really think having bullies strong arm people this way is okay? Was she really a danger to anyone that had to be strong armed into submission?
From what I saw, it doesn't appear so.
Glitterati
(3,182 posts)All your questions are answered in there.
She was asked to stop. It's on her own video.
She was asked to leave. It's on her video.
And, yes, given her Westboro behavior, she WAS a danger to the private property owner who was and IS looking at a lawsuit because she showed up.

(41,915 posts)Boy, go off to RL for a while and it gets all interesting.
If the woman is, as Glitterati says, an agitator, then imo she serves as a canary in the coal mine for the rest of us. I don't care what her intentions are, she should not be roughed up by a police officer/security guard for hire who won't either arrest her or identify himself. I don't care if she's flopping like Dennis Rodman, the onus is on the officer to do the right thing. And from what I saw and heard, he treated her the way the police treated the man who was waiting for his children and ended up being tazed for sitting on a bench. (I know she wasn't tazed, just pinned with a man bent over her backside not arresting her, not informing her, not replying to any of the things she said that indicate that she had permission, not making any attempt to de-escalate the situation, simply strong-arming a citizen who was doing nothing illegal.
There's a reason Westboro isn't confronted the way this woman was. The charges would stick.
