"It's time for Democrats to grow a backbone and stand up for what we believe"

Jonathan Capehart thinks there's a national mood of "meh" when it comes to politics and the midterm elections. For all I know, he may be right.

But I also know something else. Leaders don't simply sit back and comment on "meh." They challenge us to get up off our asses and do something.
That's exactly what Gov. Deval Patrick did at the 2012 Democratic Convention. His words are as relevant today as they were back them (maybe even more so). Take a listen - especially from minute 3:00 to 8:00.

If we want to earn the privilege to lead, its time for Democrats to grow a backbone and stand up for what we believe. Quit waiting for pundits, or polls or superpacs to tell us who the next president or senator or congressman is going to be. We're Americans. We shape our own future. And lets all start by standing up for President Barack Obama...The list of accomplishments is long, impressive, and barely told...With a record like that and a vision that hopeful and powerful, I, for one, will not stand by and let him be bullied out of office. And neither should you.

That's a leader my friends. I don't know about you, but I'm going to listen.

I'm sick and tired of all the nonsense. Its clear that President Obama and the Democrats are prepared to lead and Republicans simply want to divide us with their political games. If we can grow a backbone and get into the long game of change, we can do this! Barack Obama isn't on the ballot this time...we are!

http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2014/09/its-time-for-democrats-to-grow-backbone.html

Grow a backbone, and he not just talking about politicians. He is talking to everyone of us. Get off your ass and vote!

If you expected your pony delivered immediately, without any work, without setbacks then yes I guess you are disillusioned. Did you really think change was going to happen in a heartbeat? Seriously, a wand would be waved and we would have all we wish and strive for. Please, you all have far more intelligence than that.

This is the long game. I am in it for that haul and will continue for my nieces and nephews for their children and for their future. I am not a quitter and have no intention of going down without a fight.

Will you vote for your future and the future of your children in the midterms? Or will you stay at home despondent that the change that you believed in will never, can never happen overnight. Are you going to toss your future away or grab onto it with both hands and do your best to run with it?

The last quote in the article...

If we can grow a backbone and get into the long game of change, we can do this! Barack Obama isn't on the ballot this time...we are!

K...

Got it I am spoiling for a fight when a poster makes totally nonsensical posts that has nothing to do with the OP. He speaks of decoder rings and recipes for duck l'orange. WTF!

and you say

Heh

From the looks of it you are the one spoiling for a fight, nothing Manny said was particularly obtuse.

I am spoiling for a fight? So according to you his response to my OP was spot unfrickibly believing spot on, and not particularly obtuse. Decoder rings and recipes. K.

'Cause for some reason Manny went for snark and no answer, why was that? You seem to know the answer, so fill me in. And you do not need to get nasty to me and tell me to get over it. A simple answer to a question would be the polite way to go, or is polite no longer needed on a Democratic board. There is no need for you to be rude to me. I asked some simple questions and have gotten no answers. Again all I got was snark.

That is combative? Have you been here long and read combative posts. I asked a very simple question. I asked a poster to explain what they said. I did that because it made no sense to me. Is that no longer allowed on DU, we can't ask questions?

Do I stop it or do I reply regarding how much substance I think is in two year old+ speeches?

fwiw I voted for Governor Patrick but it is an old speech and doesn't have a great deal of content regarding current democratic leadership regardless of how good it makes you feel. Sorry, but it is a speech to rally the troops, not a substantive commentary on anything.

You listened to the video, were you inspired? Guess not. It was an amazing speech, yet you think I am only talking to myself in my OP. That is sad coming from someone from this state.

How about this, I would love to hear your comments on what Patrick said. It was amazing, as is our state. You never commented on that, why?

Join us in DC September 13th, 2014 as we rally to ratify the ERA and protect Voters Rights!
A new generation is taking up the fight to finally put women on equal footing with men and have our right to equal protection under the law codified in the U.S. Constitution. It's time to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). We spoke out loud and clear for equality in 2012, but they’re still not listening, so we’re doing it AGAIN in 2014! We Are Woman, in partnership with ERA Action and Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), is organizing a 2-day event in Washington, DC.
