As pet parents, were always moved by stories of dogs that display incredible loyalty and devotion to their owners, even after those owners have passed away. One recent example of this type of love, out of Chennai, India, is particularly emotional.
India Blue Cross general manager Dawn Williams was on a rescue mission during the first week of August and spotted a dog sitting on a freshly dug grave. He didnt think much of it and the team continued on their way, but when Williams drove past the same place on another rescue mission on August 13th, he noticed the same dog sitting at the same grave looking as if it hadnt moved. According to the India Blue Cross Facebook page, Williams and his team drove back to the graveyard after their rescue and tried to coax the dogwho seemed clearly distraught and under-nourishedto them with biscuits and water, but it refused to move.
The team went to a nearby shop to inquire about the dog and learned that he had been a constant companion of an 18-year-old construction worker who adopted the dog, named Tommy, five years ago, according to the NY Daily News. The boy, named Bhaskar Shri, was hit by a motorcycle and died on August 2nd and it appeared that Tommy hadnt moved since the boy's burial.
Williams found Shris home and located his mother, who accompanied him to her sons grave. The boys mother assumed the dog had run away when her son died. The mother and Tommy recognized each other immediately, and Williams said that Tommy rested his head on the womans feet and whimpered while she bent down, lifted Tommys head and buried her face against his neck in tears.
The boys mother then picked Tommy up and carried him back into her home, telling Williams and his team as she left, according to Facebook, that she had wrongfully thought because her only child had died that she had nothing to live for.
While Tommys owner, and a mothers son, cant be returned, were so glad to hear these two have found solace in each other and that Tommy will be cared for by family.
