Came to Some Hard Truths Last night in my View anyway
Sorry for a double post because this is also a response I gave in the Political forum with some modifications and additions.
What's the point in fooling ourselves any more about our future? If people can actually look at people like Jonie Earnst and Ted Cruz, etc etc and say that's who I want representing me? If people can hear physicists, biologists, the UN and even the freaking Pentagon for God's sake saying Climate Change is real and is reaching the point of being irreversible, but ignore all of them because Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly told them Al Gore just made it all up, what's the point? What part of irreversible as in we can't afford even two more years of deniers, don't people get? And hey its just two more years of unfettered racism, bigotry, gender discrimination etc? I guess it doesn't seem insurmountable that is if you aren't in one of the classes being discriminated against. Hey even more families thrown into poverty and starvation, so what some miracle working savior will just come along and wave a wand and fix it in two years? Well guess what You can't fix Insanity or Stupidity. It be one thing if it was just one region but it's not. All but my sister and one cousin in my family is Puke and I live in freaking New York State supposedly a last blue bastion, and even our Governor is only a Dem lite. This is a civilization that consists of a population where over half don't believe in basic scientific truth anymore, who believe everything Faux Noise tells them, who don't even understand the definitions of socialism, communism, and capitalism let alone how they work, who think all their problems are caused by women, African-Americans and Spanish speaking immigrants, I could go on but what's the point. They don't want to learn or grow they are happy in their own little Faux fantasy land where even if they screw up and kill this planet with pollution some kindly little old white dude with a beard is going to come down and take their righteous selves to his mansion in the sky. We didn't loose to your parent's or grandparent's Republicans last night. We lost to the freaking crazy nutball T Party who can win elections in a dumb downed populace but can't manage to hold a sane thought between them. As long as they and their supporters which again is now roughly half the county get to vote too there is no fixing this. That's all I can think right now. I can't see what's left to hope for? Maybe that a comet or an Asteroid gets us before the effects of slower killing. thus leading to more suffering, climate change?

2. Yep
If you want to talk beginning of the end we need to go back to him. Sadly even some on "our side" still see him as some kind of hero to be at least "admired", if not defied like the farther gone right.

3. All very true. We are probably past the point of no return as far as the
environment goes, and with this bunch voted in, we will not see any progress or acknowledgement of the env problem. So, what next?
There is little to do except position yourself and your family for the worst. It's obvious that anyone who can get into office in this country will be pub or pub-lite (I'm looking at you, Hillary), so the problem will never be solved. The human race will die back to a few hundred million who will live like peasants while the remainder of the rich rule them viciously. Just in case you didn't know, the rich are looking forward to this because they truly think this is the way society should be run. Frankly, an asteroid would be the easy way out. |

5. I'm in favor
of the asteroid!
I say, come on down!! It's time. Unless, of course, there are aliens from outer space who will come and help us. I've no intent in putting my hopes on our species to correct anything anymore. |

6. why in God's name would aliens even bother?
If I was them I'd report back with "Recommend planet for destruction. Population is to lazy and stupid to fix. Best to wipe it clean and start over with a completely different species."

9. Valid point.
I was just trying to come up with positive possibilities, of which there are few if any. But then, if there are such entities out there, I would hope they could tell which of us are candidates for survival of the species... but I doubt that such a thing as viable candidates exist.

8. Selfishness, the inherent goodness of us over them, are low, but reoccuring values
Last edited Wed Nov 5, 2014, 06:12 PM - Edit history (1) The basic political idea currently driving the most boorish teahadist and the most erudite economists at the IMF is "they" are lazy, and spending on them must stop".
The drift toward the virtue of selfishness was facilitated thru manipulating tax policy to allow capital to accumulate without parallel contributions to society. There can't be caring in the welfare of others if all advantage is given to selfishness. To prevent excessive break away wealth, taxation must progressively rise to an inescapable 50+% for the wealthiest But, of course, that can't happen with legislatures dominated by those who serve the selfish. |

10. That is because they rather listen to an alarmist loud mouth than someone who is being reasonable.
It makes them feel they are doing something.

13. Pretty much.
Sadly enough. Which is probably why they listen to those loudmouth idiots rather than an actual expert.
