visited our new super-walmart today.

if I had to choose one word, it would be, "creepy". the place was huge and dirty and disinterestedly stocked. the employees didn't look quite as half-dead as I had anticipated, but decidedly fatigued and depressed.

there are to be strike and protests this black friday, but not in my town. I feel obliged to pitch in somehow. the low wage movement seems like a crucial priority right now.

not sure why are town planners okay'd the expansion. walmart doesn't bring wealth to the community, in fact, quite the opposite.

2. Additional protests are being added, so it's a good idea to keep checking back

It sounds like you've done your homework in checking protest plans and locations. I hope they'll add a protest near you, but you might also consider joining one that's farther afield.

I did that 2 years ago, passing on several closer sites to join a protest much farther away because it looked like it might be the most significant one in SoCal. It turned out to be the biggest one in the country, with more than 1,000 protesters, civil disobedience, and arrests, and I was able to post a report and lots of photos here at DU. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021875581

For anyone interested in finding a protest near you, there's a handy interactive map of Walmart Black Friday protest locations here: http://blackfridayprotests.org/#

You can also find more information at http://forrespect.org/ and at some union websites.

yeah I was having trouble with their map but it looks like they've fixed it since.

there's going to be an event in a nearby city and of course I'm always looking for excuses to get out of nowheresville, nh.

4. Just curious - a new store and already it is dirty with

the shelf stocking problems that goes on in their other stores? What a way to impress the customers.
That is kind of a surprise.
