GOP Packing Heat Is A DARE To The Democrats

Allowing people to pack heat at the GOP convention proves that these idiots have really gone off the deep end. It creates and unsafe situation. The GOP will not learn until one of theirs goes down. Then they will blame Democrats if something like that happens.

This move has a number of political implications. One is protesters stay away. We will scare those protesters from coming within 1000 miles of Tampa. We will "stand our ground" if you show up. The second is what they will say when the Democratic convention prohibits carrying weapons. They will DARE them to ok conceal and carry weapons on the floor.

Imagine what kind of nightmare it would be to have a convention where the President would be appearing in person if "conceal and carry" weapons were allowed. There would be no way to secure the place. The President would have to speak on a TV broadcast and not in person.

I can hear it how. "The Democrats will take your guns because they will NOT PERMIT guns on the convention floor." They are anti American and un American. They will abolish the Second Amendment.

The GOP is really a party of complete screwballs.

Anecdotal addendum - There was a story on the internet about a situation where the member of a fundy church brought his gun to church to show it to someone he was going to sell it to. It went off and killed the preachers young daughter. You are more likely to shoot yourself or someone else by accident than to use it.

When Gabrielle Giffords was shot, there was a legal concealed carrying gun owner present. I saw him interviewed on TV. He rushed in after hearing the gunshots, but quickly, and rightly, thought before acting. He saw a man with a gun, but did not want to shoot at him, figuring that perhaps he was an innocent person who had just disarmed the shooter (which is exactly what he was). He also figured that if he drew his own gun, he could be shot by someone assuming he was either the shooter, or a second gunman.

Despite all the rhetoric about trained gun owners preventing incidents like this, the man's gun played no part in protecting anyone there.

I commend him for his judgement, but his gun was worthless to him.

And then there was Frank Hall, the unarmed, severely overweight assistant football coach who chased T J Lane down after his shooting spree in the school cafeteria, Mon Feb 17 at 7:30 am. Hall apprehended Lane in the woods behind the school.

Secret Service makes the rules. So, attendees won't be carrying if they expect to go inside. Outside the convention, the firearms laws that apply everywhere in FL will be in effect - protesters of any stripe and passersby may carry, if it's otherwise legal for them to do so.

This wasn't a move by the GOP exactly: the Democratic mayor of Tampa asked the Republican governor to invoke emergency powers to ban firearms in the area around the the convention, and the governor refused. Rightly, IMO (although I hate to agree with that RW tool); stretching and twisting emergency powers to curtail civil liberties is something to be resisted, no matter which piece of the BoR is at issue...

I have had this bad feeling that at the GOP convention, protesters will be in their designated place. Then some GOP a-hole with a gun will get into it with someone and it spirals out of control and then shots will take place.

That's why whoever goes there better be on-guard , and cameras rolling.

Avoid these fruitcakes like the plague. A party so out-of-touch and inconsequential, doesn't even rate a protest. Well, that's what they've become. Stay away. They have become the party of One-Hand Clapping. Don't pretend you hear them. Silence is what they deserve. How about an alternative event in Florida? The headlines would read:

"Democrats gather in Cyprus Gardens for water-ski competition and hot-dog fest."
