You get what you pay for ?

My husband and I get a lot of free technical journals. The publishers make a profit selling ads, but they have to document the readership. We get annual calls about mailing address, occupation, products our company makes, # of employees etc from each magazine.

Here's the problem: the publishers try to do this on the cheap, so they contract with call centers in Mumbai. Now, the people at the other end are fine, and their English is very good. The problem is that they are calling from India, and the phone lines in India tend to be a bit wonky (that's the politest way I can put it.) The calls end up being so irritating that I'm tempted to just tell them to cancel the subscription! I don't know what the publishers are saving by going to India, but they're losing business over it!

We get alot of calls wanting to "verify our contact information" for whatever publication it is that we've never asked for. The calls are always from out of the country. It's very irritating.
