NYT: Bernie Sanders Wants to Be President, but He’s Already Facebook Royalty

Last edited Mon May 18, 2015, 08:44 PM - Edit history (1)

Here's some exposure! And it's very true. His quotes are heartfelt and affect us all; what's not to like? He's so genuine, a trait we rarely see.

Bernie Sanders Wants to Be President, but He’s Already Facebook Royalty

By NICK CORASANITI
MAY 18, 2015

WASHINGTON — The quotations he posts, rarely pithy, are often sayings he thinks up in the shower. The photographs he puts up sometimes show him frowning, while others show him gazing oddly into the horizon. And he does not seem to care about the importance of videos.

But somehow, Bernie Sanders, the 73-year-old senator from Vermont, has emerged as a king of social media early in the 2016 presidential campaign, amid a field of tech-savvy contenders.

His Facebook posts attract tens of thousands of likes and shares, and threads about him often break through to the home page of Reddit, where the cluster of topics rarely focuses on presidential election politics.

“I’m a grumpy old guy,” Mr. Sanders joked when explaining his approach to posting online. “I know that people talk about their cats and ‘I’m walking to the grocery store and getting a can of chicken soup’ and ‘this is so exciting.’ By and large, we have not done that.”

Mr. Sanders’s prominence online is all the more improbable given that he does not do many things the way social media experts say they should be done.

And the reason Bernie Sanders’s posts sounds like him is that, for the most part, they are from Bernie Sanders. He often comes to his Senate office with quotations at the ready.

“Usually, it’s in the shower where something pops into my head,” Mr. Sanders said, adding, “I play a very, very active role in writing, literally writing, what goes up there on Facebook.”

Our organizing group is growing & most are the same people I worked with during the Tx Wendy Davis for Gov campaign.
Good group, like-minds and all.
On my way.
Later.

The whole point of social media is to be social, not depend solely on PR interaction.

and he always seems interested in what the people have to say.

There is so little genuine honesty in politics, so it's a rare and refreshing thing when people see it.

He's got a huge following on Reddit, lots of people from all over the political spectrum, some saying they are registering as Dems so they can vote for him.

And some Rand Paul followers jumping ship for Bernie.

Our state had DP caucuses for the primaries in 2008 near my home. It was pretty hot between those of us who wanted different candidates. But in 2012, wasn't much happening but mail-ins.

Which states have active groups for Bernie now and are they getting their petitioners ready?

HRC has active groups in Texas now, organizing for the primary. I want someone in the know here to post when we can see these groups in my state. More importantly, organizing to get him in the primary.

Or else it's gonna be awful. I'm not able to go to the state meets anymore, but I sure can voe for him if he's on the primary ballot and there's no reason for him to not be on it with this lead time.

you post this. I could absolutely have a beer with Bernie...and I don't even drink beer. I'll take genuine any day of the week over some politician in the bubble who likely has no clue as to the cost of a gallon of milk.

I truly don't think she wants to run, but between the guy (Bernie Sanders) I'm supporting and the Elizabeth (real deal) Warren I just saw, my heart BREAKS!

Add several other Democrats and perhaps some "nobody knows who I am" people in this country, I absolutely think THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY is making ANOTHER monumental mistake by nominating and/or electing the WRONG person.

Not going to argue this point with anyone, this is just my statement and it sickens me to see this chance slip away. EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren giving a speech or talking about the REAL issues I know I'm looking at a real person talking to "we the people!" Right in front of our noses and TPTB will do anything and everything they can to swat them away so America won't be able to SEE truth in action.

Basically telling us, WE CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! I see it, I will support Bernie Sanders and will also say that deep down I DO believe he can win! If given a chance he's a ball of fire that will set anything in his way on fire and we can begin to rebuild a once great country!

AAHHH, enough of this! I can't go on talking this way because Elizabeth Warren is so absolutely correct... THE GAME IS RIGGED!
Outta here now! OMG, just watched something amazing on The Daily Show of HOW the Repukes will go in to bomb IRAN into smithereens!

Will somebody come shoot me I'm dreaming crazy dreams, they're coming to take me away!

was brought up and it shows in the content that she posts on Facebook. But the funny thing is, she also posts Bernie Sanders meme quotes/pics. I'm pretty sure she would be horrified if she knew she was promoting the ravings of a socialist, lol.
