What is most disgusting is that with the publicity there were probably some needy families who showed up actually expecting some assistance.

On Edit: Turns out no one lined up there for the food, so the producers corralled a family that was just shopping at the thrift store there and coached them to appear to be receiving food and grateful for it. Then, after getting the shot of food taken to the other family's car, the production crew took the box of food back out of the car.

Apparently it was junk food in the box anyway.

Here's the article with more info:

It didn’t take long for the producers to realize that there was no one in line to receive food. In fact, every person there, with the exception of one family, was at the Compassion Center in order to catch a glimpse of the Duggars. The producers narrowed in on the one family there to actually shop — the Martinez family — and began to vet them for the show, giving the family of four clipboards with release forms.

The Martinez family gave their permission for the crew to utilize any footage with them in it, and according to the witness, producers began to groom the family for their television appearance.

The witness claims to have overheard producers saying, “Let’s go over this… you’re really happy that the Duggars have brought you this food, you really need this for your family.”

At that point, cameras began to roll and all the Duggars, including pregnant Jessa Duggar Seewald, each grabbed a large box full of what onlookers described as “junk food” from a truck and brought them inside. But producers still weren’t happy with the shots they were getting, directing the Duggars to take the boxes back outside and bring them in again at least three times before they were happy with the shot.

has this to say about ostentatious charity (even if the recipients actually get to keep the handouts):

Matthew 6:1-4

Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you (emphaisis added).

Do not announce it with trumpets!

I am no biblical scholar, but I certainly remember this exhortation.

There is also something about the 7 degrees of charity, the highest of which is anonymous assistance that eschews any public recognition or praise.

These people are repugnant.

That the pics don't actually show this. I would have liked to post it on my FB page. But I don't doubt the story is true.

The little secret of all "reality" shows, is that they are scripted. Having watched a few minutes of one, it was more than obvious.

Nobody speaks the way they do in real life. I watched 5 minutes of those vapid kardassians once and that is 5 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. I far prefer the ones on Star Trek.
