Sick of ALEC? Check out these organizations.

ALEC is dedicated to feeding state legislators model legislation that is right-wing in origin. Some of that legislation has been enacted in some states. Examples include "Marriage Rights" legislation that prevents LGBT couples from marrying.

ALEC is not alone, though, in creating model legislation for state legislators to introduce in their states. Several progressive organizations are doing the same thing, but with progressive goals in mind. Here are a few links you can visit:

http://www.acslaw.org/chapters/student-chapters/ALICE - This organization is building web-based database of model legislation for national distribution.

https://stateinnovation.org/ - The State Innovation Exchange is also working on model legislation that can be introduced by progressive state legislators.

http://www.publicleadershipinstitute.org/leadership_bulletin - Another organization that is working on model legislation. Check out their bulletin to learn more.

There are others. The Progressive States Network has recently merged with the State Innovation Exchange. We can help. These organization need support, donations and more. Visit the websites and see if you can help.

There are others, of course, but these were at the top of a Google search for progressive model legislation. This is something any of us can be involved in supporting, and we should.

At least their website does.

I surely resent ALEC, but can't rationally object to the model it's based on. So as if in answer to some natural law that I can't name, the void left by the absence of the liberal reflex to ALEC is occupied.

We have very talented Democratic legislators, though. Maybe some of our legislation would be good models for other states, too.
