This made me vomit faster than a comet...

A long-time Lincoln University professor drew ire from Pennsylvania officials in 2010 when he called for the destruction of Israel and questioned whether the Holocaust ever happened.

But Kaukab Siddique, a 72-year-old associate professor of English, kept his job. Now he's mouthing off again.

"Don't be scared of these dirty Jewish Zionist White Supremacist thugs," he wrote in a Facebook post in May.

Earlier this month he wondered why it took Bill Cosby's accusers so long to come forward. Is it because: "Many women are sluts."

5. My 2 cents

My opinion on this may not be popular, but it's likely a two-headed monster.

One, he has a right to be wrong and to say it all publicly. Even if it offends people. Which is a hammer people on both sides of the aisle use from time to time - forgetting that human beings should all be allowed to speak their minds freely at any time regardless of what others think of their opinions.

On the other side, there are a great deal of people at Universities who are deeply entrenched in their own personal politics, whether they be on the right or the left. Throwing someone overboard at these places for their speech is typically frowned upon not just for First Amendment reasons - but for the protection of their own behinds. Once you set the precedent that a tenured professor can be removed for his personal beliefs and "embarrassing the University" you've created the slippery slope that the rest of that school then has to slide down every time someone opens their mouth publicly.

I regard this man as a kook, even though I literally bristle any time I hear someone question the Holocaust. But he has a right to believe whatever he wants even if he's wrong. Even if a there are some real kooks in higher education (and like it or not there definitely ARE), we have to protect the places where people can be a little nuts and not lose their job over it because they said something that rustled the panties of the populace.

This has always been the other side of the two-edged sword that free speech protects. And it's an example of how people are forgetting that something which is offensive is also very legal - and that not everyone should be punished for being wrong, stupid, uneducated, or even offensive.

I should add, I'm a veteran of two decades at a MAJOR research university. I have seen it all in that time. I don't agree with everything that happens but I've come to learn and appreciate the fact that tolerance must be exercised even when the viewpoint is quite ignorant.
