Well the Pope and his minions have arrested

Last edited Mon May 28, 2012, 06:22 AM - Edit history (1)

ONE more person than they have for molesting children.

They probably have spent more time and effort on ferreting their mole out than protecting the innocent.

They can take their cloven-footed selves and go to hell.

Is that like the wettest fish ever? The smelliest shit? Lumpiest potato?

What I'm saying is that the bar in question has never been significantly elevated in the first place.

Even from that rock-bottom standard though, I think the Avignon Papacy might still be "worse" than Darth Benedict.

I suppose that if you have a particularly loose one that doesn't regard taking a position as God's Own Anointed King to rule a sizable chunk of the world's christians through the art of charlatanism, then... maybe?

Began democratizing the Church. Listened to people, responded, changed the whole direction of the Church--toward openness, tolerance, kindness, inclusiveness. The fascists couldn't wait to get rid of him and start undoing his tremendous work ("Vatican II&quot --kind of like what the Reaganites and Bushwhacks have done to the "New Deal."

I can't think of any other Pope, in the entire history of the Church, before or after John XXIII, who believed (or believes) the only thing Jesus really said, time and again, in every way possible: "Love they neighbor." Nothing to do with dogma, or power, or inquisitions, or judging people, or consigning people to hell, or accumulating property and wealth, or any of the accoutrements of royalty, or any of the abominable fetishes that the upper clergy indulges in. Nothing to do with hating women. Certainly nothing to do with hierarchies of people, with setting yourself above others. Very, very simple message: Love thy neighbor. Be kind to her. Even if she does you harm. THAT'S IT!

I think Pope John XXIII really did. But what a rarety! Even a mindbogglingly corrupt institution like the Roman Catholic Church can produce a gem (given a couple of thousand years).

I mean Paul didn't seem to like him too much, and I figure anyone who is disliked by Paul must have at least one decent quality.

And has actively been involved in covering it up and making it worse in the process.

A couple weeks ago he basically issued a statement declaring a holy war on gay marriage.

That's just two examples I can think of.

when he stood on the balcony, with his hands held together above his head like Mohammad Ali?

Or was it when he threw his long-time aide of over 20 years, who worked tirelessly to get him elected Pope, to the curb, and replaced him with a blonde 20-something?

Or maybe it's just the red $500 Gucci shoes... take your pick.

He held a post under the previous Pope that by law he could not be Pope so he was not tempted to retire the Pope early. I also read that he was a bit of surprise as there were two others who were in line and dropped out suddenly.

I have no love for the pope, but neither do I like broad-brush slurs. An awful lot of kids in Germany at the time were in the Hitler Youth - it was like being in the Boy Scouts or something. More generally, I don't know that we should make judgements about adults based on clubs they were in as children.

The Vatican is a sovereign city-state.

If anyone knows of even a single instance in which a pedephile has been arrested by the authorities within the Vatican, they can undoubtedly post that.

The absence of such arrests either means that the authorities have looked the other way or there have never been any pedephiles in the Vatican.
