So, I'm listening to Religious Programming...

while driving around. Even though I'm agnostic, I'm strangely drawn to listening to K-Brite - a So Cal religious station.

There used to be a time when religious groups at least tried to hide their political leanings. Not anymore. Today I head a religious talk radio DJ openly state that 1) God is against any centralized government and 2) That God does not approve of Liberals.

I give up...

It can be very entertaining at times and at other times very disturbing.

From my experience politics started creeping into religious teaching in these parts in the late 70s. Over time it became more and more explicit. I was a participant in an evangelical church for a time and though I had my doubts about a lot of things I was pretty young and not entirely aware of what was all going on. We were regularly urged to vote Republican and to pray and work for the Supreme court to be filled with conservative judges. If someone in the church said anything in favor of a Democrat they were noted and made to feel unwelcome.

But I am pretty sure there are some churches that did avoid this political creep though I am unfamiliar with them.

I actually asked one of my sisters to start calling herself something other then Christian a few months back. I think it may have actually made a difference in her outlook.

Because the overwhelming majority of those speaking for him describe him as a vicious insecure genocidal tyrant. I'm about as far from omnipotent as can be but if my agents described my wishes like God's describe his, I'd be in smite mode myself.
