1. Scare? I think the opposite, I think Ryan is brilliantly showing the base what an ass

Trump is and that he is the rational, calm person who wont make waves until they need him.

But you may be right, I might be wrong.

4. I tend to agree with your assessment. In fact, if the trump canidacy implodes, which I suspect it

will, he will look good by fellow republicans

2. I think Ryan is just looking for an exit, so he can ...

put about 4 years between him and what's about to happen to the gop ... all the way down the ticket.

3. I think this is him acting smarter than he looks.

Presiding over that convention is a lose-lose.

8. So is not presiding over the convention

He's playing smart but not being clever.

6. Agree with all the previous responses. If I were Paul Ryan

(and thank God/dess I'm not)

I'd be undergoing shoulder surgery right now from all the high-fiving I'd been doing.

7. Remember that a lot of Ryan's base is shared with Trump

Keep in mind that John Boehner was too liberal for the baying hounds of the Tea Baggers in and out of Congress. They chased him out of office, and the only replacement even marginally acceptable to these demented bomb-throwing back-benchers was Paul Ryan. Ryan is now signaling his apostasy to the True Believer base by saying, in essence, that he's too good for the likes of Donald Trump and his supporters. He's trying to paper it over with some nonsense about party loyalty, but even the Tea Baggers are smart enough to see that Ryan is trying to scupper away from the Cleveland Steamer the convention is going to be.

10. Palin was right. Ryan plans to run in 2020

So he wants to distance himself from Trump.
