If they lose this election, that will hasten the process. There's no way the GOP survives if they can't compete nationally.

Not until they don't control so many statehouses and governorships with not much chance of many of those changing any time soon.

They might rename themselves something ridiculous like the Reagan Patriots Party but it will still be the same rogue's gallery of political losers promoting ideas rejected by a majority of Americans.

The republicans are actively trying to do something, they are actually trying to unite, our press has been talking bad about Trump for almost a year straight...and he is only doing better, while they have quashed issues in our party to a breaking point and forced HRC down our throats. BBC had a story on today about a black barber that got people to vote of Obama twice during his term....he ran get out the votes and such. This time he is considering voting for Trump...let that sink in.

but I think our political party system and its maturity tends to stabilize them more than they were back in the 1800's. That is not to say there can't be landslide elections. Crosses fingers. Blumenthal is a clever dude though, I like they way he framed it.

Dem are finally waking up to the fact we are under a corporate regime that has no interest in progressivism.

They've gerrymandered themselves into power at least until the next census. Add to that, set the rules nationally so that they always have a voice.

With that being said, they know they need to rebuild their brand. They know they need to stop paying so much attention to the evangelical right. They know they have to be more inclusive with immigration. They know they need to reform their economic message. etc.

They haven't because they decided to ride it out rather than take i on the chin for a couple cycles. Now, Trump is going to give the extreme right the candidate they always wanted. And when he goes down in flames, then they will take it on the chin.

God help us all however, if he doesn't go down in flames.
