American officials have portrayed lifting the embargo as part of a strategy to help Vietnam defend itself against an increasing threat from China in the South China Sea. Analysts have speculated that in return, Vietnam would grant the United States access to the deepwater port at Cam Ranh Bay.

While there were no statements about such a deal on Monday, Mr. Obama did announce new commercial agreements worth more than $16 billion, including one in which Boeing will sell 100 aircraft and Pratt & Whitney will sell 135 advanced aircraft engines to VietJet Air, a privately owned low-cost airline.

The Vietnam war is over. You America hating communists won.

I guess that's what's really making him mad. The Communist Vietnamese are failing to hate America with the same white hot rage that the few remaining American communists do.

that they like Americans much better than Russians and that the Chinese are the real danger to them. After 1975, the Russians that descended on Vietnam to "advise" on economic development turned out to be a very surly and unpleasant lot. China also briefly fought a border war with Vietnam after 1975 and wants to take away some islands (that might have oil deposits) that Vietnam traditionally claims. The US looks better and better to them every day.

cognitive dissonance.

You are angry at Fish for stating the simple truth, and make
not even a feeble attempt to address the facts.

And BTW those unjust and unlawful sanctions were first
implemented by your good buddy Henry the K.
