Thousands swallow sardines with herbal paste to cure asthma

HYDERABAD, India (AP) — Tens of thousands of asthma-sufferers swallowed live sardines or murrel fish smeared with a yellow herbal paste in a ritual performed Wednesday that they believe will cure their breathing problems.

The Goud family that administers the traditional treatment in the southern city of Hyderabad says its ancestors received the secret formula from a Hindu saint about 170 years ago. They refuse to reveal the mixture’s ingredients, and doctors say it is unproven.

Those treated are often poor, but many say it has benefited them, and the government helps make arrangements for the large crowds who come to Hyderabad, the joint capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.

Before those I was a frequent flyer to the ER, or I took oral steroids which fucked me up in many ways.

It must suck to live in a place where those are unavailable or unaffordable.

Wouldn't it be awesome if something more than live fish stuffed with herbs were accessible to everyone suffering asthma?

How do we accomplish that?

I didn't know that it had those properties but when I was in yoga class I rubbed a drop on and after class I noticed how well I was breathing. When I looked at the bottle it suggested that it would help asthma.

until I got to "live"...

Of course, I treat my asthma with albuterol; sardines are a preferred all-natural, GMO- and gluten-free prescription for a chronic condition I call hunger.
