Dont worry, I got you, McGill said.
He knew he needed to stop the bleeding. He pulled off his lavender V-neck shirt and wrapped it around the arm of the weakening man slouched against him.
Blood poured onto McGills jeans. He grabbed the wounded mans shirt and tied it around the other arm.
We just need to make it to the perimeter, McGill said, trying to encourage the stranger to move. But the mans back was hurting and he couldnt walk alone; thats when McGill saw the mans back, covered in blood from yet another gunshot wound.
McGill ushered them both to the safety zone, where he saw a bystander observing the chaos.
Give me your shirt! he called out. The man took it off without a word, and McGill pressed it to the strangers bleeding back.

When they reached the car they told McGill to lie down and they put Rodney on top of him. He was told to hold Rodney tight.
You know what? There are times I hate the police. This is not one of them.

It's the tender care we show for each other in the face of absolute horror that gives me slivers of hope for humanity.
I can't stop crying.
Yes, the tender care, the love, the hope.
