"This guy was unhinged and unstable. He talked of killing people.
All these warnings. No one seems to give a damn until it is too late.
Too many people have this mindset: "It doesn't affect me. It doesn't concern me. So will ignore it"

(91,953 posts)future employment chances, but even more troubling, if he did that, and even won the case of harassment, it is doubtful that would have prevented this tragedy or some other tragic event. Mateen was a time bomb waiting to explode.
This situation might be the perfect example of how tougher gun laws may have been effective, especially in regard to automatic assault rifles with large magazine clips.
Until the make up of Congress changes, it will be very difficult to get legislation enacted unfortunately.

(130,146 posts)'He worked for G4S Secure Solutions, a Jupiter-based security company, since 2007
We are cooperating fully with all law enforcement authorities, including the FBI, as they conduct their investigation, the company said in a statement. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the friends, families and people affected by this unspeakable tragedy.
A co-worker at G4S, Daniel Gilroy, told Florida Today he worked the 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. shift at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie. Gilroy, a former police officer, said Mateen would then take over from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Gilroy told the newspaper that Mateen stalked him, sending up to 15 messages a day and made racist and homophobic comments.
I quit because everything he said was toxic, Gilroy said, and the company wouldnt do anything. This guy was unhinged and unstable. He talked of killing people.'

(35,812 posts)This is a prime example of what should have been reported to the FBI, not just the police.

(13,776 posts)I'd think that people' who are being stalked and threatened and who've been told by police that there's nothing they can do until something happens would REALLY need to know this. Thank you for this information! I volunteer on a crisis line (not domestic violence--presumably they already know this) and I'll do a little research to verify, but this is handy to know.

(35,812 posts)made. I found out purely by accident.
My friend stood up for my daughter when her former boyfriend berated her and put him down on Facebook IM's, which she screen capped and showed both me and the agents.
But when the FBI showed up at her current boyfriend's central office in Colorado, they told him that they always investigate a complaint, since the old boyfriend reported to them that her current bf, who flies around the country, deals in explosives -- the second claim was a blatant lie.
Sounds like TMI, but agents claimed that the public knows that they investigate anything said that could put someone on the TIDE database. I thought I was unaware of "common knowledge" so that's why I made the previous comment.
The agents' report was filed "unfounded," because current boyfriend actually does audio systems for conventions and concerts all around the country, and personally sat and chatted with the president for about fifteen minutes at one event last year.

(1,204 posts)This was back in the Hoover FBI, so maybe it's changed, but I doubt it.
A violation of federal law must be involved or state law enforcement must have requested FBI help with investigation of a crime for the fibbies to act. Threatening someone's life is generally a state offense, but IANAL.
They told me to call back when a crime had occurred within their jurisdiction.
Assholes.

(32,723 posts)It's NEVER the fault of the laws about gun sales.
They interpret the constitution to claim EVERY citizen should be armed at all times.
Wanna bet the gun blogs are claiming this guy would have never stood a chance if everyone in that club was armed?
