(41,103 posts)from Scotland, he has his GC there, father from Germany. Has all the money in the world, is well traveled yet doesn't know geography - the Orlando shooter was 'from Afgan' like the blankets and dogs. Don't need no edjakashun to be Americun president!

(53,742 posts)Seems he would know that just from visiting his old man's home country.
Or maybe . . .
Wait, what?
Do you think it's possible he's never been to Europe, and he wants to be president?
God, we can't let that "know nothing and don't care" ever get close to the White House.

(36,418 posts)Most 4 star hotels have a similar globalized interior. It's that same way with a lot of high-end restaurants. I doubt if he ever sees places any other way. He might as well have stayed in New York his entire life.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)about this nonsense, yes. I listened to him once early on explain very emphatically and at length that he hated being outdoors and never went outside controlled environments if he could avoid it. The campaign is ruffling his so carefully coiffed feathers temporarily, of course, but your post certainly reminded me of it.

This man isn't even ready for a 4th grade geography quiz, much less leader of the nation's foreign policy.

(29,414 posts)Somewhere around here I have a reel-tape of the part where Marvin hums Pink Floyd after they finally land on Magrathea. They had to excise that from their subsequent tapes due to copyright infringement.

Ironically, Douglas Adams became a good friend of Dave Gilmour, and got a 'thanks' on The Division Bell, for thinking of the album title.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)It's always nice to hear about artists getting along like that. The lawyers and labels are always so afraid of the least bit of infringement while the artists are like "Big deal!"
muriel_volestrangler
(101,267 posts)which was pretty much heaven for Adams.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)But I do have the book here somewhere, so I'll look it up. Adams made so many of us happy, so it's nice for someone to make him at least as happy
I may have the cassette tapes, too, because they were for airplay, and I played them on public radio here. But, I have no idea where those are in my collection, either...

(12,232 posts)Thanks! I wasn't aware of this. Video is very shaky up until @ 2 minute mark, then improves somewhat.
Douglas Adams left us all too soon.

And did you notice that your post-number there was "42"?

(12,232 posts)came to $42.42 a couple days ago.
Guess this is my week to find the meaning to life, the universe and everything!
kentauros
(29,414 posts)And you've got one 42 for each part of the question. Now you need to start seeing "6x9"
suffragette
(12,232 posts)I don't remember the 6x9 part.
It has been all too long since I re-read those books.
Can you remind me?
kentauros
(29,414 posts)It was also in the TV show, which is probably why I remember it so well. It takes place on Earth in the past, when they discover that humans evolved from all of the human rejects of society (such as phonebox sanitizers, and politicians.) Arthur, Ford, and I can't remember who else is there and they knew that Marvin had stated that the question (because the 'answer' was 42) was imprinted on Arthur's mind.
Arthur had made up a Scrabble set to pass the time, so they used the pieces to randomly select the answer. As they pulled out the pieces, they conveniently spelled out a sentence (in order!) and it was this: What do you get when you multiply six by nine?
Completely nonsensical, which is then why they had to go to the end of the universe in the last book, which seemed to be known by others making the 'pilgrimage' there, as I recall. Marvin was with them that time
suffragette
(12,232 posts)Eons since I saw the tv show, too.
Thanks for the fun memories.

(29,414 posts)I should get out the series and read it again. Or find a Kindle version

(42,271 posts)Someone loaned us cassette tapes, way back in the day...recorded the tv show off PBS. Have a "Don't Panic!" button around here, somewhere.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)does that mean you also have the computer game? I got a button in the package when I bought that, along with Don't Panic glasses (opaque black) among other humorous items, maybe even some pocket lint
I never could get past the babel-fish dispenser machine to get my babel-fish. I learned later there were like 17-steps you had to do in order to hang onto the fish and get it into your ear.
Maeve
(42,271 posts)And store in the thing your Aunt gave you. There were like five different types of lint including belly-button. But you needed them all to have both tea and no tea.
Sheesh, I'd almost forgotten the game! You had to fail repeatedly to get the clues on what you needed to do to get the fish to go in your ear so you could respond properly to the Volgon poetry...we did manage to win after more tries than a reasonable person would put up with...but who said we were reasonable?
Just keep track of your towel.
