My 50yo SIL started crap last night on FB by posting "You do realize if Democrats stop shooting people, gun violence would drop by 90%". My 16yo son started replying (probably the wrong thing to do). I didn't start anything with her because her husband had a stroke on Friday. I know he's a Trump supporter and a gun humper and gets *REALLY* riled up over politics. I just wasn't going to go there. Son and SIL's back/forth went like this:
Son: How many of those attacks have been committed by Democrats?
SIL: Did you know that "San Bernardino mass-murderer Tashfeen Malik wrote social-media posts,"
like on Twitter, Facebook and wherever else, "that endorsed jihad and expressed disdain for America.
Yet, that did not cause US immigration agents to question her admission into our country... In fact,
our government consciously avoided learning about Maliks Islamist rants," because they were required
to by law. Yes, BY LAW.
Son: Yes I already knew that and I also knew that the Orlando mass shooting was done by a registered democrat.
SIL: Then why did you ask if you already knew? Do you see any logic in not using any and all means available
to the US Govt to properly vet refugees?
Son: Because I've looked into the statistics and found that most of the mass shooting that have happened this
year (less than 6 months) have not been Democrats. 142 registered mass shootings in the us as of
this year, so far. Most of them committed by Republicans or non-registered voters who were using the
open carry laws to their advantage.
SIL: And how many were in a no gun zone?
OK, I couldn't stay quiet. Her hubby's home now and raising shit too so I just added: So, if my right-wing-nut-job gun-humping cubby mate at work goes postal it will be reported in the paper that he's a registered Democrat. I've known this guy for 30 years. Does he vote for Democratic candidates or hold Democratic beliefs/ideaology? No, he's always said that he registered as a Democrat so he can vote against certain people in the primaries and he feels he gets more attention when he writes to Delaware's Democratic representatives if he shares the party title. Party affiliation doesn't really play a big part. I registered Republican at 18 because I studied Abraham Lincoln and had to register as some affiliation if I wanted to vote in the primaries. I think the only Republican I've ever voted for is Castle. Thankfully, I fixed my party affiliation about 8 yrs ago

(58,440 posts)just sounds like an extension of the same old "they're all liberals, liberals are the source of all evil" crap they've been spewing for 30-40 years. Riles up their base, I guess, but like most of their crap has little to do with reality.
