Australia: Feminists vandalize strip clubs in Brisbane; female owner of one of them strike back

Young women have vandalised Brisbane strip clubs, accusing them of inciting violence against women.

But the female owner of one of the clubs has hit back, saying the clubs can be empowering for those who worked at them.

A group of four women were captured on the Grosvenor's CCTV system gluing the posters on its signage about 11.40am on Sunday.

Other clubs, such as the Candy Club in Fortitude Valley and Showgirls in the CBD, had also been hit.

The posters displayed the line: "This is violence against women."

Grosvenor owner Jasmine Robson said that message could not be further removed from the reality.

"They clearly have no idea about the industry," she said.

"None of the girls are there under any kind of duress. They're there because they want to be there.

"They enjoy the significant income they can make in a very small amount of time and they feel very empowered doing what they're doing.

"A feminist movement isn't about bringing down other women, it's about upholding other women and their choices and supporting that."

Ms Robson said the vandals had done about $3000 worth of damage and she intended to report them to the police and possibly pursue civil action as well.

"I've been in the industry for a very long time and the women don't feel degraded at all," she said.

"They feel empowered by doing it and the one in control in a strip club is the woman.

"If anyone's being taken advantage of, it's the people paying for the services."
