Thank you brave and patriotic congress people. You did a great thing in the past 25 1/2 hours.
The members are now going outside to meet with supporters.

(90,189 posts)That will work. Meanwhile, Our Dems in the House are shining a spotlight on the craven NRA lapdogs that constitute the GOP.

(745 posts)we got the money out of politics that a lot of issues would be resolved because the influence to do the wrong thing would be gone..
I mean, cmon, we cant even get the guns to be investigated. The NRA lobbies for this stuff and that's why it isn't fixed and will continue to not be fixed.
So no, I'm not elated.

(108,925 posts)They will never meet all the standards of all people all the time.
But we can applaud all of them for what they are doing now.

(67,782 posts)Which is why we'll never get anywhere. So long as we continue to not address the underlying issue of why this is, well, much adu about nothing.

(83 posts)As much as I agree with the sentiment of your post, it was pretty uplifting for me to see (on Periscope, since we apparently live under Ingsoc) the palpable relief that our representatives feel about actually taking action. I suspect that they feel just as beaten down by the state of our union as we do, and standing up against the tyranny of money in this way appears to be quite empowering. I hope that the claims made on the floor that this is the beginning of a movement on the part of the Democrats in Congress continue to hold!

(1,000 posts)However, what was the chant "no vote - no break" all about if they ended up taking the break without a vote?
The "no vote - no break" chant was merely a catchy slogan, it wasn't meant to be real. The important thing was they got some TV time instead of Trump.

(39,343 posts)Or was it just a publicity stunt in an election year that didn't really accomplish anything?
I don't see what there is to be happy about.
This was very disappointing.
The whole idea of a Sit In is to sit in until something changes, until a compromise, or a meeting, or something changes.
Now the GOP will be able to reasonable call this Sit In a PR stunt, which I think is tragic.

(13,685 posts)Not as good as is needed, but there will be new gun laws.
The NRA are a bunch of hypocrites. If they really cared about rights they'd be against the Patriot Act. Wimps.
