General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump is lying about his Wharton School degree.
Trump did not go to Whartons prestigious MBA program. Rather, he received an undergraduate degree offered by Wharton to University of Pennsylvania students. And Trump didnt attend Wharton for a full four years. Instead, he transferred there after spending his first two undergraduate years at Fordham, the Jesuit university in the Bronx.
Gwenda Blairs book on the Trump family reports that he gained admission as a transfer student only because of an interview with a friendly Wharton admissions officer who was one of Freddys old high school classmates. (Freddy is Donalds older brother.) Trump was also the son of one of the wealthiest New York businessmen of the era, the developer Fred Trump. That certainly couldnt have hurt his admission chances.
Writing in the New York Times magazine in 1984, William Geist reported that the commencement program from 1968 does not list him as graduating with honors of any kind, even though just about every profile ever written about Mr. Trump states that he graduated first in his class at Wharton in 1968.

(21,996 posts)As I've said before, if Donald Trump tells you today is Saturday, check your calendar.
Colleges and universities cannot release students' records so Mr. Trump knows that there is no one who can contradict his claim to have been first in his class.
He lies about everything and to everyone.
Donald Trump is an idiot.

(1,188 posts)Trump: Is there any place better to be on a Friday night in Florida than at a Trump rally? an Orlando Sentinel reporter tweeted. People in crowd shout, It's Thursday.
Undeterred by the reality check from his own supporters, Trump messed up again later in the speech.
Trump: Its Friday night, were having fun, a reporter from The New York Times tweeted. Crowd shouts: Its Thursday! Trump seems to think theyre just cheering. Gives thumbs up.

(5,477 posts)A man has three sons who entered three different religious orders: the oldest became a Dominican, the second a Franciscan, and the youngest a Jesuit.
On his deathbed, the father tells his sons, "I know you all have vows of poverty, but as a sign of your love for me, I want each of you to place one thousand dollars into my casket to be buried with me."
On the day of the funeral, the Dominican son steps up, places $1000 in the casket, and says, "This seems like a waste of money, since you can't take it with you, Dad. But with the special permission of my superiors, I'm doing as you requested, as a sign of my love."
Next, the Franciscan son approaches the casket and says, "You know I love you, Dad, but the needs of the poor are so great, I just can't let $1000 be buried with you. I hope you understand, now that you are in heaven. Please forgive me."
Finally, the Jesuit son comes forward and says to his brother, "Don't worry, Frank. I'll pay your share." Then he reaches into the casket, takes the cash left by his eldest brother, and puts in a check for $3000.

(20,142 posts)Penn State is the public university.
I know that some Wharton students have come out and said that he doesn't represent THEM, it's unlikely that the university itself is going to come out and say he's lying. They don't want to get sued.
I read up on it and the undergraduate program is highly ranked also, but it's certainly not the same as getting an MBA there.

(24,683 posts)I just would like to see his grades, really put him in a bind, the public is getting information about this hypocrite, it is amazing.
I am reading a book right now by David Cay Johnston , The Making of Trump, and I really hope that if he shows up for a debate, someone should ask him some questions and then when he tries to meanly mouth out of, ask him a follow-up questions----his dealing are just as shady as his degree

(20,142 posts)Of course, money wise could go anywhere, but he still had to get in. Being ivy league, University of Pennsylvania is still tough to get in, but not as tough as the other ivies. Its acceptance rate is 9.4%, whereas Harvard's is around 5%. But he must not have been able to get into Penn as a freshman, so he went to Fordham with an acceptance rate of over 40%.
turbinetree

SunSeeker
(51,512 posts)Otherwise you'd just say Penn if referring to an undergrad degree--which is all he has. Regardless, he was definitely not "top of his class" or even an honors student at ANY school he attended. He flat out lied. And then there is the hypocrisy of him bashing affirmative action when he benefited from the most common form of affirmative action: that for the children of the rich and powerful. His big brother Freddy relied on his connections to get his marginal student of a brother a transfer into Penn.
BTW, the phrase is "one and the same," not "one in the same."
