Radical Christians look at Trump as their hero and see Pence as also crucial in delivering Bible based governance. That means law driving by Biblical standards and dictums. No secularism allowed. They believe Trump and his ilk will deliver the country to their power. And they won;t take no for an answer.
Right now this administration is dangerously close to the extreme evangelicals who want to transform society to their image in very much the same way the Taliban wants.
And the GOP is ready to comply as long as it is still the main power behind it all. In fact the GOP is now largely a religious party as much as it its a political one. It is more clear every day that the GOP supports the marriage of religion and state.
Even cooperating with Russia to dismantle our democracy is OK with them. Whatever means gives them the power is acceptable. It is ordained by God in their view.
And somehow we must stop this madness.

(1,907 posts)Both are reasons religions need to stay out of government. But I'm not sure I would call them radicals since that is a accepted part of the repub party as a whole. It's their mainstream.

(24,259 posts)shocked many but, like many others, it has encouraged more Progressive Christians (and other progressive spiritual paths) to find their voice and take action.
IMO Progressive Christians, who I think are more true to the Gospel teachings of Jesus, aren't normally super loud and aggressive (think Jimmy Carter) but I've seen an increasing number speaking out about Trump and the GOP on social media using the words of Jesus to make their points.
FWIW...
This is one of the ones I started following around a year ago...

IMO (and IME) using the Gospels, calling people out on their biblical misinterpretation of what he would want his followers to do, is a very good way to reach those people who truly want to follow what Jesus would want them to do.

(24,259 posts)Due to my rather 'odd' beliefs formed over the decades I'd fit much better in a Unitarian Universalist church than a Presbyterian, Methodist or Catholic one.

(110,903 posts)so they'd see first hand why it's such a bad idea. Unfortunately, most Catholic theocracies are crumbling and even Eire is getting out from under the church, so they'd have to change religions. I doubt that would trouble them much when they realize they could get all the oppressive laws they say they want already in force.
