(Schadenfreude:) Conservatives fume over 'complete' spending concession to Democrats

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/conservatives-fume-over-complete-spending-concession-to-democrats/article/2621824

Conservatives are blasting the five-month, fiscal 2017 spending deal written by Republicans and Democrats as nothing short of a "cave in" by the GOP despite its control of both the House, Senate and White House.

The deal, conservatives say, will make the fiscal 2018 spending process even more difficult.

The $1 trillion bill "does little more than kowtow to liberal Democrats and so-called moderate' Republicans," Jason Pye, policy director for the conservative FreedomWorks advocacy group, said Monday.

Republican leaders pointed to the GOP wins in the bill, including a $15 billion increase in defense spending that did not require the typical equal increase in domestic spending.

It. Funds. High. Speed. Rail. In. California. That's not even something the caucus is going to go to the mat over. WTF happened over the weekend?

They have the majority so why were they forced to kowtow over anything? octoberlib May 2017 #11
That's explained in the linked article. The majority wasn't enough to overcome a filibuster. Jim Lane May 2017 #12

The Democrats know the republicons took Russian money and have promised not to throw the lot in jail, but they want something for it...the government to run.

It's probably more along the lines of it takes time to formulate a workable budget (which the Rs never seem to do) and this is a final gift from the Obama Administration.

However, maybe your suggestion is playing a part, too. Let's hope so.

for a government shutdown. They were willing to cave on nearly everything rather than have to carry that stench around on them.

Didn't want the government shut down while they control all three branches.

and maybe the russian thing.

the republicans might be hoping waiting for Trump to leave and Pence to come in .

trump has shown he has no interest in actually working on these issues. he will just tweet stupid things and make things worse. remember how he attacked the freedom caucus after failure to repeal obamacare.

and democrats deserve credit for most likely sticking together.

I'm not buying this. I think a deal was made and these articles saying they're fuming are to cover their ass with their constituents.

If the continuing resolution had included right-wing dreams like defunding Planned Parenthood, the Senate Democrats (or at least enough of them) would have filibustered it. Breaking a filibuster requires 60 votes and there are only 52 Republican Senators.

Dems had a 60-vote majority for about 10 seconds in Obama's 1st 2 years, before Kennedy succumbed to a Glioblastoma.

That's why * called the Senate "archaic", which is a big word for such a tiny brain.
