HOUSE UNANIMOUSLY PASSES MCSALLY BILL STRIKING AHCA EXEMPTIONS FOR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.

'The House of Representatives today unanimously passed U.S. Representative Martha McSally’s legislation to prevent Members of Congress and their staff from being exempt from the State waiver provisions of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) as amended.

“Any law we pass that applies to our constituents must apply equally to Members of Congress as well. Anything short of that is hypocrisy. Congress must abide by the laws it passes and should be treated no differently than other hardworking Americans,” said Rep. McSally. “My measure eliminates double standards by preventing Members of Congress from exempting themselves from American Health Care Act.” '>>>

1. Good start.

But it would be even better if the law required that no member of congress is to enjoy greater benefit than that available to the poorest American.

2. A stand-alone measure

That means it isn't part of the AHCA, and the Senate doesn't have to consider McSally's bill at all in putting together their version of the Fuck All Y'all Act. It's a fig leaf over your little toe.

14. The Senate doesn't have to accept anything in the House version...

and, in fact, is writing their own version of the bill.

3. McSally is my representative...unfortunately

McSally pushing this legislation for congress to be treated like everyone else is disingenuous. She retired after 26 years in the military so she gets excellent medical insurance. She does not need to rely on Trumpcare. I believe this was all a stunt to make her look good. I am going to try and write a letter to the editor of my local paper Az Daily Star. Sure wish I could write as beautifully/stingingly as a DU contributor I have read. I am a new member, but I believe the name was nancee. Can anyone point me to this wonderful writer? Maybe nance will jointly write it with me. That would guarantee it would be published!

4. Who really cares what her or any legislator's motive?

We can't ever know, anyway.

9. I like what she did.

I also care about her motives. Be kind to new ones here, no need to be sharp with them. It is her State and her Rep.

I asked questions, not 'sharp.' I posted to begin with.

But I believe that just coming from your heart is most effective for your purposes.

18. McSalley is my rep too.

I wrote her an e-mail expressing my disgust over her vote. I got back a
form letter answer saying thanks for the e-mail and I'll get back to you on it.

8. One thing I'd really like to know ...

Who was the self serving scumbag who put that provision in there in the first place?
Someone ought to reveal their name just before election time after they have run a
long and expensive campaign for reelection.

11. Yes.

I agree but to go further, anybody who voted yes on this POS bill need to have their noses rubbed in the fact that even though they may not have proposed this dung heap of an exclusion, they VOTED for it. They're complicit. They put their own interests above their constituents in the most personal way. It cannot be overstated.
