The cyberattack has been stopped!

This was in the Guardian early this morning, I don't have a link yet.
A researcher found a kill switch that stops the attack cold. The code refers to A url with a long nonsensical name, and the researcher tried registering the name. It stopped the attack cold.
The malware checks the url to see if it is alive before proceeding further.
The Guardian story called the researcher an "accidental hero".
