Could someone more knowledgeable than I am please explain why Republicans

who say they are "pro-life" have not yet written legislation in the house and senate and sent it to the supposedly "pro-life" president outlawing abortion? Isn't this one of their big issues that they keep hitting their constituents over the head with?

My cynical thought is that they have no intention to do so because then it would be a rallying cry to pro-choice citizens and they would lose their biggest issue with conservatives. I just don't know if they legally can and can't do since the court has ruled on Roe v Wade.

1. It would be unconstitutional for them to do as you say.

They need for it to be revisited by the courts. That is the importance of the courts.

...They're anti-choice, and there's a big difference between the two.

Yes you're right they don't think it's important enough to deal with right now, but they'll dangle it in front of the religious right to keep them in line for when they need the votes in 2018.

feels like many of them are only "pro-life" to pander to the evangelicals whom they need to get reelected.

terrific basis for fundraising.

Once they've banned abortion, criminalized it, and started throwing doctors in jail again, the republicans are done and will lose millions of dollars of donations. The motivation gone, why write checks that could go to evangelical churches?

via a lawsuit brought by some red state or other. The only way Congress can do it is by writing an antiabortion amendment to the constitution and getting 3/4 of the states to approve it.

Both are very tall orders. The USSC doesn't like to reverse itself and I doubt they've got the votes in most states to approve of such an amendment.

The PROSPECT of outlawing abortion keeps 'em coming back. They'll never actually DO it.

The PROSPECT of "guns being confiscated" keeps 'em coming back. Reality is, many Democrats are gun owners.

The PROSPECT of "outlawin' teh geighs!" keeps 'em coming back. Again, it's never going to happen.

If they get everything the Religious Blight and the NRA wants out of them, there goes their carrot on a stick.

They sure can't compete on economic/domestic or foreign policy. It's these shiny object issues that they paint the Democrats as "weak" on: Bible/Guns/Flag.

Religion and Patriotism join Capitalism as the three biggest CONS sold to the American people. "Faith" is when someone else is doing the thinking FOR you.
