(5,275 posts)I'm less than than 4 hours from Ontario just in case.
How long historically have dominant nations been dominant? People think we will be fine forever are not paying attention to the past.
As someone said on MSNBC yesterday Nixon was a crook but not a traitor and nobody was thinking the USA was in deep trouble like now....we are in uncharted waters.

(14,516 posts)Sadly, I think the twilight of oppression for this nation is nearly done and a thick, inky darkness is creeping over the land.
Many on the right wing low-information but heavily armed side of things are being psychologically prepared by Breitbart, Fox and hate-talk radio to 'fight off a slow coup of the left wing and the bureaucrats' against our duly-elected POTUS.
Seriously.
I'm deeply concerned about these hate-militias, because they are anti-intellectual, filled with corporate-generated hate propaganda toward the government and toward the poor (remember, the corporate agenda has always been to route the maximum amount of tax money to corporate profits rather than to the people), and a Nazi-esque militancy that hasn't been seen since the 1930s in Germany.
This whole thing is pretty fucking serious Kpete. I mean, the reason the GOP hasn't initiated impeachment even though most are embarrassed by Trump and want to get rid of him, and there is ample evidence of treason, is that their nominating base are all die-hard Trump supporters. So they aren't going to initiate.
And the Dems won't either because they want the Republicans to begin it for political reasons.
And now Merkel is on record as saying that Germany can no longer fully rely on the US or the UK. These right wing, corporate-funded jerks are doing great for profits but shitty for the American people.
The Who:
I've got my clipboard, text books
Lead me to the station
Yeah, I'm off to the civil war
I've got my kit bag, my heavy boots
I'm runnin' in the rain
Gonna run till my feet are raw
Slip kid, slip kid, second generation
And I'm a soldier at thirteen
Slip kid, slip kid, realization
There's no easy way to be free
No easy way to be free
It's a hard, hard world
I left my doctor's prescription bungalow behind me
I left the door ajar
I left my vacuum flask
Full of hot tea and sugar
Left the keys right in my car
Slip kid, slip kid, second generation
Only half way up the tree
Slip kid, slip kid, I'm a relation
I'm a soldier at sixty-three
No easy way to be free

(14,154 posts)I said it in another thread but..many are saying (as if its inevitable) that all its going to take is enough Republicans to develop a conscience and join the chorus for impeachment. But the opposite is also true, all it takes is enough Republicans, even if they are not in leadership positions, to go along with their leadership in scuttling an investigation in whatever way they can. And failing that, to rally enough of "murica to rise up in defense of Trump. And it will be in the name of saving the country, ironically.
I see the narrative developing where it will be seen, if it isn't already in the hard core deplorable base, as a giant conspiracy by "Washington elites" to bring down a President that they can finally trust and believe in because he dares to speak honestly and courageously about a corrupt system that is taking away all their jobs and endangering them.
