Yeah, I know this is Fox. But there's no reason to think they got this story wrong. And there's more at ABC -- the prosecutor has asked the FBI to investigate.

SALT LAKE CITY The officer at the center of controversy over his treatment of a Utah nurse was told not to worry about obtaining blood from an unconscious car crash victim in the hospital, but tried anyway, Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen told CNN Wednesday.
Salt Lake City Detective Jeff Paynes tense July 26 encounter with Alex Wubbels, a charge nurse at the University of Utah Hospital burn unit, drew national attention after body cam footage of the incident spread online. Wubbels refused to let officers draw a blood sample from the patient, in keeping with hospital policy.
Jensen told CNN his department had initially ordered the sample from the man, who was involved in a crash near Logan, Utah in Cache County. But Logan police asked the Salt Lake City police for help and they dispatched Payne, a trained phlebotomist, to get the blood sample, Jensen said.
At the hospital, Payne relayed his difficulty in getting the blood sample to a Logan detective, who was not at the hospital, Jensen said. According to Jensen, the detective then informed Payne the Logan department could get the blood through other means.

Prosecutors have asked the FBI to join an investigation into the rough arrest of a Utah nurse after video of her being dragged screaming from a hospital drew widespread condemnation, authorities said Thursday.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill is overseeing a criminal investigation into officers involved in the handcuffing of nurse Alex Wubbels. He is asking for FBI help in part because his office can't prosecute possible civil rights violations like wrongful arrest, Gill said.
"This is a very important issue, and it's of great concern in our community," he said. A federal probe could also look for any larger systematic problems that contributed to the arrest, Gill said.
The FBI opened its own civil rights review after the video surfaced last week and has agreed to assist the county investigation, FBI spokeswoman Sandra Yi Barker said.

Seems to me the most reasonable explanation is, they knew that the accident resulted from a dubiously justified high-speed chase, and trying to somehow impugn the victim as incapacitated would be a CYA move.

(8,261 posts)If the victim chose to go after the police department, they would like to know if he has any drugs or alcohol in his system. If there were drugs or alcohol it would limit the PD's liability

(34,661 posts)Bullies with a Badge. There seems to be a percentage of this so called Sworn Officers who think they are above the Law and will bully their way through situations.
When they called in Sam Gill a Democrat, you just knew the situation went south in a major way. Salt Lake City PD will use Gill as their clean up man. Just another FUBAR in Zion.

(1,900 posts)to be that big of a place. Surely people who know or recognize each other cross paths on occasion. If the nurse was my wife you can be damn sure I'd cross that officer's path and kick the shit out of him.

(9,760 posts)I am so disgusted. OK, so he didn't shoot her dead or anything as horrific as what cops have done to countless others, particularly minorities, but this is just BS. Basically, he appears to be an easily angered asshole who thinks he runs the world cuz he wears a badge.
Cops need to be trained to behave in a calm, professional manner in all situations. To keep the peace, not start trouble.

Wait until what happened at the Waco Twin Peaks a couple of years ago finally comes out! They just had to recuse one of the local judges and still have not tried the first Defendant yet after over two years have past! 177 were arrested and over 150 indicted on cookie cutter arrest warrants! They set up ahead of time and opened fire on a Sunday lunch crowd and motorcyclist attending a legislative update on, get this, police profiling motorcyclist and proposed motorcycle only checkpoints!
They shoot un-armed black men routinely, profile Hispanics in Arizona even after being told to stop by a Federal Court, this guy with the poor nurse, and Waco!!! Out of control!!!
