(24,201 posts)Why didn't they bring that up in his 2008 race? That was a really close election. Seems like that would have been a great time to use it (not that I'm upset that Franken beat Coleman, of course).
PatSeg
(46,017 posts)that is a good point. They threw everything they could find at Franken in 2008. Now that he is a force to be reckoned with and people even drop his name as a possible presidential candidate, this story comes out Rovian style.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,201 posts)they attacked him with some of his old jokes and other off-color stuff that he had worked on in the past. With that in mind, it's really hard to believe that they didn't use this as well.

I personally am tired of Democrats being scared of the big bad wolf.
Let Republicans take care of the former judge. They want to keep him out of the Senate. Let them do it.
Let us follow Sen Franken's lead in calling for an ethics investigation on himself
Let us ignore Cenk Uygur in his rush to fill Franken's seat-which isn't vacant and is unlikely to become vacant.
...and then let's get busy on calling congress to oppose the tax bill
yuiyoshida
(41,429 posts)I can't see a happy ending in this, its not over... despite the fact the woman accepted his apology.. Do you know how many Republicans hate Frankin? Remember that book he wrote about Rush Limbaugh, being a big fat liar? This is going to come back on the Senator...Hannity, Fox News, Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, all have ammunition now... He should have never have done that, even in joking...because mark my words, it will come back to bite him.
The Republican party is E V I L...everyone here knows it... this won't be pretty.

Why would anyone grope a woman through a flak jacket? rather bizarre
Why would Franken actually harass or really grope a woman in the full view of a camera?
What does the photographer have to say about this?
Look at Franken's eyes....he is acting. If he was seriously groping, wouldn't his eyes be on his victim's breasts, rather than at the camera in a pose?
We are being had, I am afraid.

Why is Franken all lit up almost like a flash went off ... but Ms. Tweeden in the shadows?
How come Al casts a shadow but she doesn't?
And why is there cameo under Franken's arm but no person it is attached to?

(18,439 posts)are barely touching the flak jacket (if at all). Being "groped" is somewhat suspect, but it was in bad taste, even if she was "in" on the "joke". As for the kiss and and Al's poor judgement, he's wrong as can be. No excuse for that.

Look I'd call it "not good". Lots of airtime but Franken did,the right thing step by step. Quick apology. More full apology later. Requested ethics probe. Now he has to sit back and absorb it. He's bombed on stage before - everyone does - so he's used to it.

(145,896 posts)in 1967-8. It was as you said. Only the officers on the base were allowed to mingle in any way with the cast. The rest of us, celibate due to where we were located, were not amused. There were only about 600 horny young guys stationed there. It was a festering rash of testosterone all the time. No women were stationed at that base, due to its remote status.
It was a strange situation, to be sure.

(2,897 posts)The photo, whether harmless or sinister, is damning and just shouldn't exist. I'd be surprised if it didn't show up in the mailbox of every single female/suburban swing voters during his re-election bid next year.
My prediction is that Franken will realize that the seat is bigger than him, resign and be replaced w/ a surefire candidate w/ positions and values similar to his rather than lose to a Republican.

SaschaHM
(2,897 posts)He's a politician and what matters, and should matter to us as a party that would like to gain and keep seats, is whether or not that electorate accepts his apology and wants to send him back to the Senate. If his numbers start to crater, he needs to go. Ensuring a check on the president and frankly many other Democratic policy goals is bigger than any Senator.
BannonsLiver
(15,642 posts)Why is that?
SaschaHM
(2,897 posts)I've said multiple times that if his numbers crater and he's on track to lose his seat, then he needs to go. The same can be said of Menendez as well if NJ voters have a negative impression of his trial. No senator is too important to be replaced on the ballot if it looks like they're going to lose their seat.
If his numbers stay up and he looks like he's going to coast to reelection, then he needs to stay.
I care more about a myriad of Democratic issues that will only be legislated if we are in power more than I care about any single individual senator.

From the backwaters of the web, in a discussion board on poker, vintage 2012. One poster there had pulled a 2007 quote from FHM (another girlie site):

FHM: Whose ass would you really like to kick?
LEEANN: Can I make it a combination? Bill Clinton and Al Gore. I'm a Republican, but Al Gore because he and his wife are idiots, and Clinton because I'm pissed off he's gotten through unscathed after some of the things he's done.
Anyway ...
