My maternal grandmother was 15 years old when she married and 16 years old when she conceived her first child. Her husband was 41 and 42. They had 10 children during the next 20 years. This was normal back then. Im sure it was normal in Alabama 40 years ago as well. The age of consent in Alabama even today is 16 (with parental consent
**Moore married at 38, his wife was 24 at the time.
Then he goes on to dismiss the victims, saying that 40 years ago was too long in the past for accurate memories.
Lastly, "even if" the charges are true,

(9,350 posts)I highly doubt it was normal, at any time, in the South, or anywhere else for a 41 year old man to marry a 15 year old girl. I also do not believe the idea that men had to wait until they were in their 30s to establish themselves and get married. In addition, a man does not have to marry a 14 year old in order to have children. Women can have babies into their forties. Even if a 32 year old man wants to marry a younger woman he can marry a woman between the ages of 18-31. A 32 year old man looking to date 14 year old girls is not doing so in order to find a woman to bare him children; he is looking for a woman who is more manageable. The 32 year old man probably has some type of mental strength issue. Likely he can not stand to be with a woman who probably has her own mind and might want to think for herself. Many people believe teenage girls are easier to manage than grown women.
