BROWNSVILLE Federal government attorneys again apologized to a U.S. district judge Friday, regretting the misunderstanding that resulted from their statements regarding the dates when immigrants without legal status would begin to participate in President Obamas immigration programs.
Fridays filing in the ongoing lawsuit that a Texas-led coalition of 26 states filed against the Obama administration to block the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
The Government deeply regrets not only the confusion that these statements created, but that it did not recognize the prospect of confusion earlier, Justice Department attorneys wrote. But the miscommunications were not the product of bad faith, and they do not warrant sanctions or further discovery,
The 34-page response came after U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanens ordered Justice Department lawyers to provide further information regarding a March 3 advisory.
