Brazil rebuffs Latin American leftists over Rousseff suspension

Source: Reuters

Brazil's interim government dismissed criticism by leftist countries in Latin America, including Venezuela, Cuba and Bolivia, over the impeachment process of Dilma Rousseff, who was suspended as president by the senate.

The leftist president of El Salvador on Saturday added to the regional pressure on Brazil, saying that he would not recognize the interim government and recalled his ambassador, claiming there had been "political manipulation" in Latin America's biggest country.

The bickering, not rare between leftist leaders and more conservative governments at a time when much of the region is moving to the right, comes as centrist Michel Temer, Rousseff's vice president, assumes Brazil's presidency and scrambles to pull the economy out of its worst recession since the 1930s.

Rousseff, after five months of impeachment proceedings, now faces a senate trial over irregularities in her government's budget. The trial could take up to 180 days and is expected to lead to her definitive ouster.

Just in the snip alone, 1) the headline- "Brazil" rebuffs leftists. The corporate parliamentary coup is NOT the country. The country is resisting the coup and the outcome is uncertain, but it's NOT the whole country. 2) Third paragraph- Assumes that much of the region is moving to the right, when that's not certain. Also Michel Temer is called a "centrist" when he's actually a right-wing, neo-liberal ideologue. Also, hasn't the entire world been in the most dire economic straits since the 1930s? And that thanks to capitalism, NOT the left.

And finally, Rousseff is NOT accused of personally benefitting from her "crimes", whereas there is some suspicion that Temer and his cronies DID personally benefit.

Much like Ukraine, this was a corporate run and sponsored, neo-liberal coup to overturn the results of and election that just happened 2 years ago that didn't go the way the capitalists wanted. This is what happens to social democratic governments who want to "reform and regulate" capitalism. They will be interfered with and overthrown by any and all methods, legal, illegal, and quasl-legal.
