Planned Parenthood sued over Colorado abortion clinic shooting

Source: Reuters

The widow of a man fatally shot at a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Colorado and a woman wounded in the same 2015 attack are suing the facility over lax security, court records showed on Monday.

The suit claims that given the "long history of violence" at U.S. abortion clinics, Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs should have implemented safeguards that would have prevented a gunman from going on a shooting rampage that left three people dead and nine wounded on Nov. 27 last year.

The wife of Ke’ Arere Stewart, who was killed, and Samantha Wagner, who suffered a gunshot wound to her arm, accuse the clinic of being liable, negligent and of outrageous conduct in the suit filed on Friday in Denver District Court.

Yep - it's the Planned Parenthood's fault that the right's rhetoric leads to killings - sheesh!

Suing the wrong folks, but the gun proliferation industry is protected from liability so a grieving family has only one recourse.

Curious to who is funding or backing $$$$ the lawsuit.

Nothing more or less. The lawsuit is unlikely to succeed.

3. So, they were aware of a 'long history of violence' and chose to go there anyway?

Seems to me some personal responsibility is in order here too and if they did not see the security they feel should have been there - they should have left.

This smells fishy.

. . . .

Planned Parenthood “provided little or no security at (the clinic) such as an armed guard and perimeter fencing, as they do in other clinics,” the lawsuit said.

“It provided no signs, posters, verbal or any other type of warning describing the risk of physical harm, injury or death associated with entering (Planned Parenthood) properties.”

. . .

wondering what planet these two women live on to be able to make those statements with a straight face. how ******* clueless and out of touch are they?

I bet some ambulance chaser was right there to put it in their head too. Hope the fuck is disbarred.

This will go over like the theater lawsuit. Blame the victims, not the assholes.

If you can't legislate them or intimidate them or kill them out of existence, then bankrupt them.

... with.

I wonder who here would just shrug it off if they were the ones that lost a loved one and a majority of their family income due to a business being negligent?

I don't know the particulars of the case and neither does anyone here. I'm for letting the jury decide.

Blame the victim? I'm pretty sure the victims are the loved ones of the guy killed. Whether there is some blame to be assigned to anyone other than the shooter is up to a jury to decide. That's what our court system does.

Right wing crazies with guns that target abortion clinics are a fact of life. If clinics don't make reasonable efforts to mitigate danger of their guests they can be liable. The jury will decide what is reasonable.

Don't worry, PP's insurance lawyers will make a good show of it in court - and the media

I love how DU calls different and benign opinions holding little weight and no consequence "freeper tort reform mode..."

Though necessarily avoiding specifics and woefully lacking in citing any sources, it certainly allows to pretend to be more insightful than reality may otherwise say we are, regardless of how we rationalize it as something else...

Those opinions are bought and paid for insurance pr firms, right wing think tanks and the John Stossels of the world.

Helped in no small part by human nature and the "lobster pot" theory.

With governors (including "reasonable moderates" like John Kasuck) cutting off funding for PP, you won't have to be so concerned at this rate any longer.

The murderer was screaming about keeping Planned Parenthood from selling baby parts...Daleiden, therefore, is the third party most responsible for the shootings. Sue that bastard into oblivion.
