5 Soldiers Dead, 4 Missing After Vehicle Swept Away at Fort Hood

Five soldiers have died and four others are missing after a military vehicle was swept away by fast-moving flood waters Thursday at Fort Hood.
Three of the soldiers were found dead shortly after a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle overturned at about 11:30 a.m. at the Owl Creek Tactical low-water crossing and East Range Road during a training exercise. Two more bodies were found late Thursday night, according to a Fort Hood statement.
Three other soldiers were rescued from the water near the vehicle and are in stable condition at Coryell Memorial Healthcare System in Gatesville.
Army officials planned a briefing early Friday to provide an update.

FORT HOOD, Texas At least three soldiers were killed Thursday at Foot Hood in Texas when their truck overturned in a creek, according to the Army.
Rescue crews remained on the scene late Thursday afternoon. Six soldiers remained unaccounted for. Three other soldiers were rescued and taken to a local hospital where they were reported in stable condition.
Aircraft, dog teams and rescue boats were conducting the search in Owl Creek.
Fort Hood emergency personnel responded to a call for a swift-water rescue at 11:20 a.m. CT Thursday after the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle got stuck at the Owl Creek Tactical low-water crossing and East Range Road, according to information from Fort Hood.

I hope they find some survivors hanging onto trees in the middle of the flood zone. I am afraid they would have found them by now though.

the water was so high and fast the driver lost sight of the roadway and the front wheel went over the edge of something like this.
Though it doesn't even have to be that high. So long as it's moving fast and there's a lot of water volume going by, that water will move vehicles even larger than that.
The phrase "Turn Around, Don't Drown" isn't just a cute-sounding saying. It is important to understand what can happen in a flash flood. All it takes is about a foot of water in depth to be able to move a vehicle sideways. Vehicle loses traction, starts to float a little bit, and the next thing you know, your vehicle has been flipped.
Water is relentless.

Five Fort Hood soldiers are dead and four missing after floodwaters overturned their army truck in Texas Thursday. Three soldiers were initially recovered, but two others were found in the late-night hours, according to the military post's Facebook.
Earlier, three personnel were saved near the vehicle and taken to an army medical facility for further treatment. The search continues for those still missing.

At least two dozen streets were closed, including a stretch of Interstate 35 in San Antonio early Thursday. At least two high water rescues were conducted, one near Lackland Air Force Base, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavy rain was falling at a rate of up to 3 inches per hour, said weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Erdman, leading to more flash flooding.

FORT HOOD, Texas (KXAN) The bodies of two more soldiers from a truck caught up in swift moving water at Fort Hood were found dead Thursday night, bringing the death toll to 5. Four soldiers are still missing.
Emergency officials continue to conduct rescue operations for an overturned Light Medium Tactical Vehicle at the Owl Creek Tactical low-water crossing and East Range Road.
The search is ongoing for the six soldiers missing from the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, a statement from Fort Hood said.
The bodies of three soldiers were recovered in water downstream from their vehicle Thursday afternoon.....................
