Malcolm Turnbull orders urgent visa review of anti-gay Islamic cleric Farrokh Sekaleshfar

Source: abc australia

Austrilian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has announced an urgent review of the visa held by an Islamic cleric who is visiting Sydney.

Sheik Farrokh Sekaleshfar has been quoted as describing death as an appropriate sentence for homosexuality.

Mr Turnbull said Immigration Minister Peter Dutton had asked his department to conduct the review.

"This is a legal matter and has to be dealt with in the appropriate way, but his visa is being reviewed at the direction of the Minister even as we speak," Mr Turnbull said.

Mr Turnbull said while the Sheik had a valid visa, Australia had a "zero tolerance for people who come to Australia who preach hatred".

It was here, but now just gives a '404' message: http://www.themuslimgroup.org/dr-farrokh-sekaleshfar.html

The Google cache reads:

"Dr. Farrokh Sekaleshfar was born in Manchester, United Kingdom. He received his MBBS (Medical Degree) in 2000 from the Imperial College of London, the second ranked medical school in England and 3rd ranked in the world. He also studied bioethics at the University of Manchester School of Law. Dr. Sekaleshfar currently resides in Qum and has studied in the Islamic Seminary for over a decade. He is well-known for his talks on spirituality and bioethics."

I was trying to work out what nationality he now has. He talks in the USA a lot, is said to 'reside in Qum', ie Iran, but is British in origin and life for at least 25 years, I'd think. I have to horrible feeling a deportation from Australia might send him back to the UK.

Unless he's taken Iranian citizenship, deportation will probably send him back to the UK.

... I'd say the fellow is going to get tossed around quite a bit. Australia will send him back to Britain, and Britain will send him back to Iran. PO needs to bar him from ever stepping foot in the US again.

That's the point. He's British-born; and unless he's disavowed British citizenship (unlikely, because it gives him more freedom to travel than Iranian citizenship), we have to let the bugger back in the country.

And have his passport taken away, if that is legal to do in the UK.
