Orlando gunman said he carried out attack to get 'Americans to stop bombing his country,' witness sa

Source: Washington Post

The gunman who opened fire inside a nightclub here said he carried out the attack because he wanted “Americans to stop bombing his country,” according to a witness who survived the rampage.

This account from Patience Carter, a 20-year-old who was inside the club during a three-hour hostage standoff, offers the first glimpse at what the shooter said spurred him to carry out the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Carter said the gunman made his claims about his motivation during the same 911 call in which he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

At one point, while about two dozen hostages were in the bathrooms inside Pulse, Carter said the gunman asked if there were any black people in the room. When one man said yes, the shooter said, “‘You know I don’t have a problem with black people,'” Carter recalled during a news conference. She said he added: “‘This is about my country. You guys suffered enough.'”

To an anthropologist, assimilation is the wrong term anyway. Each of us has a cultural set of social characteristics resulting from the sum of our life experiences. Welcome to complexity, where big words like assimilation are gross simplifications.

You're family is from Afghanistan, you are Muslim, you are gay, you are a minority in America, damn, people like Trump hate you four ways. And they expect you to assimilate? What mental stress?

even harder struggles in their lives. Single mothers of low to moderate means. People that don't know where their next meals are coming from. Homeless. None of them are rushing out to kill a bunch of people.
There are certain cultural norms that are expected of people in this country. Not killing people because Donald Trump doesn't like you is one of them.
I feel no pity for this person.

making it as difficult as possible to get food stamps to feed your children, not supporting social service programs .... it is along list and the under privileged can often feel abandoned if not despised and hated.

I'm saying the world influences people's actions, and we need to take some responsibility for the social and political milieu we create as a society. Do onto others as you would have them do onto you isn't just an old meme, it also reflects the wisdom that treating everyone with respect and love begets a saner world. We need to end hate and send people like Trump back to his lonely, gilded tower to send out tweets everyone will ignore.

First of all... where the hell is "afghan?"

Definition of afghan:

An afghan is a blanket of knitted or crocheted wool. It is sometimes also called a "throw". "An afghan is the knitted or crocheted wrap that everyone has seen thrown over the back of a rocking chair or folded at the foot of Grandmother's bed.

Secondly... the killer was born in America.

As usual, drumpf hit it out of the ballpark

because, he couldn't say "I killed a bunch of gay people because I have
a sexual attraction to men, but I hate the fact that I do. So, the only way
to resolve my confusion and self-loathing was to kill as many of these
people as possible because they remind me of my self-loathing and my
sense of alienation from my family, my wife, my culture and myself."

"I did it for my country" is much neater and simpler, and it makes for a
dramatic sound-bite on the news.

Anyone willing to accept this explanation is a fool.

And, I am pretty sure that he wanted to be killed by the police in a
suicide-by-cop scenario.

The dissonance of having same-sex attraction being a huge issue.

Have you seen his father??? Jeesh, he looks frightening and rage-filled himself.

Not only was this massacre clearly anti-american Islamic Terrorism per witness and young African-American woman Patience Carter ... but black people were specifically supposed to be 'spared' on top of it?!?

Jeez ... Faux and Friends will have a 'field day' that lasts for weeks with this story, complete with none-too-subtle innuendos that 'Teh Blacks' (Obama!) are secretly in league w/'the terra-ists!!!'

Patience just blew the whole 'conflicted-with-his-sexuality' argument right out of the water in one fell swoop ... at least to the 95% of the population that will be led by the nose by the media depictions and will never entertain the idea that this asshole may've just been full of SHIT about his motives, knowing he'd get 1000x more 'infamous' by ACTING like a terrorist as a front for his real, totally pathetic motives. Esp. in the eyes of his Father ...

Not to de-value the victims here AT ALL ... but the damage this friggin' a-hole has just done goes FAR beyond the 102 souls killed or maimed by his heinous act.

Obviously, that 'was the plan' though ...
