LANSING, Mich. The campaign of Green Party candidate Jill Stein filed a request Wednesday for a recount of nearly 4.8 million ballots cast for president in Michigan.
Mark Brewer, the Michigan-based lawyer representing Stein, arrived at around 1:30 p.m. ET at the Board of Elections with several others representing the campaign. He brought along a check for $973,250, which represents the $125 per precinct that Stein must pay for the recount.
"I and the undersigned members of my slate of electors are aggrieved on account of fraud or mistake in the canvass of the votes by the inspectors of election, and/or the returns made by the inspectors and/or by the Board of County Canvassers and/or by the Board of State Canvassers," Stein said in her request. "I request that all of the precincts and absent voter counting board precincts within the state of Michigan be recounted by hand count."
A recount could begin as soon as Friday in the state's largest 19 counties, followed by the smaller counties, with a goal of finishing the statewide recount by Dec. 10.

(24,632 posts)and if he thinks that he can just deny a recount, then he has failed the state Constitution requirements, by law he has to investigate the charges, if I remember correctly. He is not the law upon himself , he represents the entire district and the entire state

(3,077 posts)I think she doesn't expect any action to change the results. And she may be burnt out as well.
may not be at all.
What we don't know is if and to what extent she, her campaign staff, PACS or other backers are doing to help fund the effort. Perhaps they have elected to maintain silence if they are sending cash to support the recount effort. FEC Rules do not preclude another candidate or affiliated group from helping. They only require reporting after the fact as to where donations were spent to ensure nobody buys a yacht or Ferrari.

(2,256 posts)I don't think the recounts are going to find anything substantial. She doesn't want to put all of her political capital behind this if it doesn't look like it's going to pan out.

(3,270 posts)After lecturing Trump during a debate about how horrifying it is that he wouldn't accept the results of the election, she may feel like standing up and asking for a recount would be considered hypocritical. She's in a bit of a catch-22 situation. I wouldn't be surprised if some of Clinton's advisers were aiding Stein's recount efforts behind the scenes so that the DNC and the Clinton campaign would not appear to be involved directly for fear of another media crucifixion.

I'm guessing he knew there was a fix in place that would upend all the polls so he did his usual table turning. Now they get to talk about her not accepting the steal.
She recently filed for a court order for a hand recount in one of the states, I think Wisconsin. Stein also filed for the same reason. So Hillary put up time and money to essentially back up was was happening. She also asked for volunteers to aid the effort.
I don't think she plans on "moving on" until the people are satisfied that the election was not stolen, or that they can't prove it was.
She is too politically astute to let anyone put her in a Catch-22. They may think they did but her brain is wired to deal with complexity. This situation is nothing to her.
I trust she will see it through as long as she knows we're behind her. The amount of money that has flowed into Stein's coffers shows that we are.
Edit to add this link asking for volunteers for the recount in Michigan:

(15,262 posts)Myself, I don't know what she's been like about this, but filing motions in WI to join the litigation isn't being passive in my book. The Clinton campaign is actively involved in the recount at this point already. Meanwhile, she is a brilliant attorney, so I'll defer to her judgement. What you see may be what's most advisable.

(12,188 posts)Hillary already conceded, so this prob. won't change the results...
I'm hoping we can find the issues, yell them out so everyone knows what happened, and mend them before the next election.
I'm in California, and we have our governor seat up in 2 years. I don't want any GOP cheating going on then.
If we can get the voting system clean, I think we'd control both houses and the President for a long, long time.

(15,262 posts)Al Franken won the MN recount, he became Senator. End of story for opponent.
We are certainly recounting in the correct states.
However, a rigged election recounts the same if it's a perfect crime. Any election not hand counted paper ballots reported at the precinct is subject to chain of custody trust.
